Anyone know what year it was when they used a synthetic pivot washer? I picked up an old used 710 on the cheap and when I got it apart for service, it had these hard dark grey synthetic washers. I have never liked Teflon synthetic washers because they wear so fast, but whatever these are made of they seem to have held up well as they look new.

from 1999 to 2003 or 2004 I think, the washers work great, if you want brass washers, grab calipers get a measurement and sand down your new brass washers down to the same thickness.

my 722 is pretty old, has seen solvents and all kinds of weather/treatment, the old plastic washers are still goin strong :)

I think they are probably nylatron washers. Stiff like metal washers, and slick like the teflon washers. A pretty good compromise!

They are nylatron and are by far the best compromise as far as strength wear resistance and smoothness. Why change them if they have lasted this long?

I think he was moreso sharing his surprise at their condition than looking for information on getting rid of them. ;)

Well, sort of...

I switched them out with some bronze from another 710 just to see and there is less side to side blade play. Its not a lot, just a hair better, but enough for me to seek out some spare bronze ones.

If you send it to benchmade they will put new washers in it for free. You just have to send 5 $ for return shipping and a note telling them what you want.
