A Benchmade Gent's Knife ?

Does Benchmade make anything considered a Gent's Knife? I'm thinking along the lines of a Spyderco KOPA or Viele 2.

2 1/2" blade; black micarta or classy wood?

I have the Elishewitz 690 which is a beautiful knife but a little too large and bulky to consider a "Gents Knife".

Thanks

A Benchmade 330 Pardue would fit the ticket there. I think the standard version comes with G-10 scales, but it's about 2 inches with a titanium framelock. Very thin and lightweight (about 1.5 ounces). It's becoming more collectible since it was discontinued so expect to pay $100 plus if you can find one. There's also the BM 855....

They just came out with a new one in the HK line BenchMade makes for them. The 14210. Its the next knife I'm going to buy.

The Benchmade 960 SLV is a perfect gents/edc knife. It weighs just a tad over 2 ounces and is a little over 7 inches long. This knife is so thin that it practically disappears in your pocket. I too was carrying a 690 for a while, but it was too thick and not quite as sheeple friendly. I have a huge Benchmade collection and the 960 is without question, one of their most perfectly exected, practical and beautiful carrying pieces. You will not be disappointed with it. Get it at Americanheritagesports.com or Newgraham.com for around $130.

The 960 is a nice gents knife for some, but with the blade at 3.25" it may be bigger than Tim wants - it's damn near the size of the 690 that's too big for him.

The 14210 and the 440 (and teh 707, 705, and 525) are 3" blades - nice knives, but it sounds like you want something smaller.

The 330 series is, in my Benchmade-loving opinion, not one of their better knives. But they are gent-y. I'd recommend the AG Russell 332 version, if you were going to get something in this line.

In really small, there's the 2" blade benchmite - cute, but not terribly ergonomic. That may not be a setback to you in a gent. On a budget, the Benchmade NRA Mini-Steigerwalt is a neat little lockback.

In my opinion, in Benchmade blades under 3", you have 3 excellent choices, all of them out of production :( , but not that hard to find.;)

The 850/855/856 series. The 850, in ivory micarta with rainbow titanium bolsters, is gorgeous and expensive. The 855 and 856 are aluminum and G10 scales, with a number of limited runs in different colors (and a couple in D2 steel.) Excellent ergonomics, very cutty blade. Linerlock.

The 450 Park Avenue - all Bob Terzuola, all the time. :) The smallest of the three, and the one that looks and feels most like a traditional gent. Chain lanyard and lapel hook, no clip. Linerlock.

The 770/771/773 series - the smallest Axis lock ever, available in two different flavors of carbon fibre, several colors of aluminum, and a limited edition in green and black G10 with a polished D2 blade - that one is my personal gents carry piece. Sexy as hell - you want a Benchmade, don't you want an Axis?

I feel that the 770 is the way to go for a gent's folder. There's one at the local knife shop that I've been saving up for, and if it disappears before I reach the mark, I'll be upset.

For a right handed person, the 770 series, in all of its forms, is the very best Gents' Knife that BenchMade has ever made, IMO. But, if you want one and can find one, you had best move fast as they have been discontinued and most dealers are out of them. New Graham and Knifeworks, for instance, have none in stock. The_mac, I would move now if you possibly can do so.

I love my 770. I got one of the preproduction versions in carbon fiber with neatly done file-work all along the back strap, the axis-lock buttons, the pivot pin, and elsewhere. All edges are nicely beveled. And the 3" blade is a very good slicer for such a small knife.

The original benchmite was a good gent's knife. The new plain one isn't as dressy.

The 770 in CF is pretty and a good knife to boot.

James Mattis thought the original 940 was classy enough for a gent's knife.

I thinkthe 440 is the classiest of all of them and I own all 4.

I do not have a 960 for comparison.

I like the 440, the original Benchmite and the little BM Snody FB. I can't remember its name though.

Take a look at the 705-401. It is a limited edition, but i'm pretty sure American Heritage Sports is still letting one go on e-bay about every month or so. The silver G-10 makes this a beautiful knife.
