I have a few BK9s now, but this was my first one, and my first Becker knife. It's been used a lot, and been posted here on the forums many times. At one of the gatherings last year, Pointy remarked that my knife was a "Benchmark Nine". Since Photobucket went rogue and ruined all my old threads, I thought I'd share a few pictures of a benchmark nine.
It stayed pretty much stock for a little while,
but then I stripped it and gave it a darn good patina.
It's been used for woodcrafting
It harvested switchgrass samples for my thesis research.
It's rode along as I explored the banks of the Missouri river.
It came with me to my first gathering where I used a belt sander for the first time and rounded over the tip. I eventually filed some material off the spine and improved the point somewhat. I also ground off the ramp.
I've used my nine for fence building,
breaking ice in the pond,
And harvesting mushrooms.
I carried it while we were prairie dog hunting, even though there was very little wood to chop in the Ogallala National Grassland.
I gave it jimping and modified the clip to make it a bit pointier.
It even got to model the Proton approved non-slip grips.
Now we have reached a new chapter in the history of this benchmark nine. I've always liked this mod, and Knifejunkie's chopped down Bundok inspired me to go for it. So I arranged an appointment with a carbide chop saw.
And the old nine, with its new makeover, is ready for many more adventures.
