Can anyone think of a better knife than an Emerson super CQC-7 waved for the same price thats tougher and the same size. cuz I don't think I can, and I'm about to order it for edc and sd. so if anyone could think of a better choice please let me know cuz I'm about to order:)

Spyderco has some good offerings with knives like the Millie and Manix series' that are worth taking a look at.

I have a Super CQC-7. It is a great knife, but I prefer these folders for the same price or less:

Spyderco Manix - Tougher than Super CQC-7
Spyderco Military - Great cutter
Benchmade 710 - Doesn't open faster than a Wave, but opens fast, closes with ease, and is a strong lock
Benchmade Skirmish - Big, bold, and beautiful
Al Mar SERE 2000 - Better ergos

The main disadvantages of the Super CQC-7 are the brick-like ergos (which offer low comfort and poor security), chisel grind (some like it, some hate it), and tanto blade shape (some like it, but it is generally far less useful than a more traditional shape).

Again, the Super CQC-7 is a fine knife. And if it is the one you want, get it. It will not let you down. But there are many great sub-$200 folders, and IMO, the Super CQC-7 is not the best.

If you want an Emerson I would suggest the Commander since it is more comfortable and has a more practical blade shape.

Any chance you would consider a fixed blade?

Emersons are a recent interest of mine and are very cool knives. That said, I think their biggest weakness is value. For the money, I actually think that you can get a better knife, unless the design appeals to you a lot specifically (like it does to me).

The military and manix have already been mentioned, so I'll throw out the 710 and AFCK. The Chinook is pretty cool. Maybe the full sized skirmish. The Spec Bump or blue green Bump. The Avalanche....
The avalanche is a recent love of mine, and has S30V and G10 for only 80 dollars, a good ~70 dollars less than most CQC7s I see and with S30V instead of 154CM. I'm not a steel snob, it's just that at the 150 dollarish mark, I kind of expect the best everything available materials wise. The fit and finish of the few Emersons I've handled in person were fine, but there are some complaints on BF. I don't think I'd have a problem.

It's all a matter of preference, and if the CQC7 suits you well, then there's not going to be any substitute. I might very well pick up a mini cqc7 given the chance.

If the "wave" is your selling feature, than Emerson is for you. Indeed, that is one cool tool feature. The Buck/Strider 880 series are pretty tough in that price point, The Benchmade Skirmish and Rukus are some pretty bad boys too!
I'd also look into the Al Mar Sere, nice knife.

Matador-

Ah, the new groom! Give the "marriage" time, son. The glow will wear off.

:D

(Yes I can. Since you specified "knife," I can think of hundreds. First of all, the damn thing is a folder -- already defective compared to a fixed-blade.)

Well, if you must have the wave, and it must be a tanto, then I really can't offer any alternatives.

The super SOCFK would be a better chioce in a tanto. Last time I looked They were selling for $179.99. Same size, not a chisel grind (I don't think). and a far more secure handle. Still has the wave.
I would also most recommend any other emerson of approx. the same size over the Super 7 as well. This is because I feel most have better, more usable designs, especially for sd. If you really like the design of that knife though, then go for it. It is a good knife without a doubt in my mind.
I would look over e-bay for a decent price on a AFCK first too, if I where you. -Just some thoughts.

Emerson is fine, so are lots of others. I feel that way about the Hinderers, personally... Of course i'd rather carry a fixed blade any day.
