A better way to carry big/heavy blades...

Haven't been around much...been busy catching up on prepping and working on some ALICE frame survival packs for some friends. Anyway....

I never cared for wearing heavy stuff on my belt. Just unweildly and drags your pants down. Recenly, I took some 1/4" military rope and tied a loop about bandolier sized and put that on my Kabar Cutlass machete in place of the belt loop. It hangs at waist level on the opposite side I would normally wear a sheath. It was very comfortable and easy to draw with.

Today I did the same thing with paracord on the original BK2 sheath. I had removed everything from the plastic. It hangs at 45 degrees down, but works well. Also tried the same thing with the BK9 sheath, which is heavier since I have the Cold Steel Warhead sheath installed on the back. Perfect!!

So if you have heavy stuff on your belt, give this a try. You might find you like it better!

i jury-rigged a baldric out of some paracord and an old leather belt for my kabar large heavy bowie. i'll put up some pics on monday. originally had just some long loops of paracord attached to the belt loop and leg-tie ring and slung that over a shoulder... it's really comfortable and easy to draw from with the big knives and moves well if you're climbing over things or pushing through brush.

Hold on a sec....Lemme try something. Hard to take pics of yourself, but if you see them you'll get it. I dismantled the BK2 one though because i plan on keeping it in the Spec Ops sheath...

All you do is wear it cross-shoulder, like you would a messenger bag. Hangs in the same spot it would on your belt, but the weight is better distributed.
