Been on the hunt for a new hunting knife since I decided to retire my lucky Gerber after this season. Well while browsing that famous auction site I found it. Now, in the last I never gave Muela a second thought. Having seen some of their inexpensive fb's in person I just thought they were junkie. Then I saw a member here post up some pics of a couple new ones he got from them and I was intrigued. A search turned up the Rhino (10SV-M) and I fell in love. Got it today and it's really impressing me for a $125 +/- knife. It fits my hand like nothing else I've had. The sculpted G10 is just great. And to top it all off, it's Sandvik! 14C28N to be precise. I'm a big fan of Sandvik steels so to find a quality fixed blade in one is just a treat. And the sheath is simply amazing for a factory piece of leather.

Gentlemen... BEHOLD!

I've been very critical of Muela in the past (it's one of the most common brands found in Argentina, I've owned a ton of them), it's nice to see they are improving. For a very long time they used some sort of mistery stainless, and most guards and pommels were made out of crappy plated zamak (even in nice stag handled models). Some of their tangs were ridiculously short, too. I'm still not fond of the hollow grind they use on most of their knives (not Muela's fault at all, just my personal preference).

The overall design on that Rhino looks GREAT. The sculpted G-10 handle is really cool. Congratulations.

Nice knife! That sheath looks especially interesting, any further information on it?

That does look nice. I've actually wondered why they are not more popular. I have at least a half dozen of their knives, I pick one up every time I go to spain. I've beat the heck out of this full tang kukri and it has barley a scuff on the blade.

That one looks grand. Full tang, 14C28N, and a nice useable blade profile. My brother has an older Muela of a sort, and the blade profile reminds me of a bayonet, the factory edge was incredibly sharp, regardless of what mystery stainless it was, no clue how it's held up or anything, but it seemed to be quality. I believe Les Stroud used a Muela of a sort in one of the episodes in Survivorman, maybe, a Scorpion ?

Hard to find in the US, which is where most members of this forum are from. I'm sure they're more widespread in Spain. (The same goes for hundreds of smaller knife manufacturers worldwide, and their respective countries.)

if you look on the interwebs there is one rather prolific retailer in the US with a very large selection that only sells Muela. They sadly don't have the Rhino though, but they have about 100 others

Never seen one before, but that is definitely a good looking knife. I am not a huge fan of factory leather... but it looks good too!

Possibly a case of them finding it difficult to "get their foot in the door," then?

I don't think so. Here are a couple more. Both are full tang and solid as can be. Neither have a sheath as cool as Binfatts Rhino though.
