First off, I want to give a big thanks and BZ to David Brown for my BT6 sheath. When he posted a thread that he had BT6 sheaths available, I pounced on that, although I misread the post and requested something he didn't have made yet. But David was quite patient with me, and we discussed what I wanted to order. I like danglers, and he went into quite an it of detail questioning on how I wanted the knife to ride. After that was pretty much finalized, or somewhere along the way, he mentioned he also did rigid sheath extenders. I decided to order one of those as well, thinking I could try both, and also that I had a specific BUSSE in mind on which I could use the extender or the dangler, whichever I liked less on the BT6 sheath. Well, as it turned out, and I can't help but think David may have foreseen this, the balance on the BT6 is less than ideal on the dangler. The center of mass is just a little too far aft. The dangler certainly works, but not as well as the rigid extender. Well done, David, in setting up the extender the same as the dangler, and for mentioning it. Excellent work on the Kryptec Highlander sheath! When I finalized the order, he said it would be about 2 weeks. Well, less than two weeks, by my count, the sheath was waiting in my mail box. You can't ask for better service than that. Buy with confidence from BuyBrown!
Now, the PSA. For David Brown and Proto BT6 owners. I managed to score a Proto BT6 off the exchange from TheMtnMan. Fantastic knife! As much as I like the BT6, I think the Proto just may take the top spot of the two. Which is kinda what I expected. The edge shape/curve/length and the clip/point placement is exactly the same, by my eye. The difference being the concave portion of the spine. It really gives nice curves and aesthetics to the blade. One concern of mine was how to sheath it. Of course a Spec-Ops sheath would work, but I mostly just use those for ones I can't find a sheath-maker with the knife already, or to use with the new knife while I'm waiting on the dedicated sheath. But I didn't want to be sending such a limited knife around the country to get a sheath made for it. But, I figured, worst case, it would live an extended period in the Spec-Ops, until I could follow through on my intent to eventually start doing my own leather sheaths. Well, turns out, that isn't necessary. Once I received the Proto BT6 today and saw how close to the released BT6 it appeared, I tried it in David Brown's Kryptec Highlander sheath. And it fit!! And I mean, at least in my case, it FIT! It fits so well, if one didn't know, or look closely at the outline of the sheath, one would be hard pressed to determine by feel alone which blade the sheath was actually made for.
So, all this to say that, if you have a Proto BT6 that you want a nice kydex sheath for but can't find a maker with the Proto, and don't want to be sending it around in the mail, it is a pretty decent chance you don't have to.
I'll try to get some photos and post later.
