I normally never go on the other forums (Himalayan Imports is my stomping ground) but thought I would check out a few of the others.

What can you tell me about these Busse Combat Knives and this forum ??

Regards
Brendan

Brendan,
Welcome to the Busse forum, glad you stopped over.

What would you like to know about the knives? There are plenty of people here willing to help, just let us know what your interests are.

As for this forum, we have a good time here, just watch out for the Skunks ;):D:D

It sounds like Busse knives have quite the rep and following (+- 30000 posts). What are the main use for these knives, hardness etc.)

How many different designs, are they handmade, any special runs. Are there blem prices (slight cosmetic damage) etc.

All info is welcome !!

Okay - I've had a look around both sites (Busse and Rat) what's a good all rounder knife too start with. I'm used to khukuri's so I don't need anything big. About 9 inches or so, but strength and quality is what I'm looking for !!

The Howling Rat looks pretty good - anyone got one ??

If so how does it handle

Welcome aboard. The Busse knives are hard use, severe service tools that you can count on. They are designed for use/abuse beyond what most of use will ever put a knife to. The Forum here, and the real Busse Forum over at Busse Combat (sorry Eric);) are frequented by good folk who share a passion for the hearty blades of Jerry Busse. What you will not find is a lot of tough guy BS or wannabe fantasies and attitudes. I would like to say that these are reral knives for real people, but they are truly more than that. One word of warning ... just like the potatoe chips, you can't have just one!

Welcome to our little addictive home :D Unfortunately, Nimrod is telling the truth. Everyone here being poor is good proof, lol

30,000+ posts? Dear lord have we been at the keyboard that long? Has anyone seen their spouse recently? :)

A good all around knife that many people like to start with is the Busse Badger, although quite a bit smaller than 9". Very nice knife with a long proud heritage (except for an unfortunate incident with a rat ;)).

Welcome to the Busse forum! :DS

The Howling Rat is a great blade, as is my favorite of the little rats, the Bandicoot. They are no BS utility blades.

Brendan,
While there is some overlap between Busse and Swamp Rat you may get more feedback on the HR over on the Swamp Rat forum.

But since you asked here, I'll answer here ;)

I've got a Howling Rat and carry it nearly everyday, it has pried apart a couple of 2x4's(that had been nailed together) with no damage, I've also used it in the kitchen, all kinds of prying and cutting with it and the coating is hardly even scuffed yet.

If you're interested further I'll try to post some links to some reviews.

:D:D

Brendan, welcome to the original Busse forum...;)

Glad you have an interest. As Nimmy said, these are real knives for real users. Even though many of us have our share of safe queens, we have a few hard and frequent users.

There is a wealth of information on this forum. You can search almost any topic and find info and commentary on it.

Busse knives are no BS blades. The people here are here because of the quality of the knives, but more so, the quality of the knife owners, followers, the company, and the maker.

We look forward to hearing what you think your first buy should be. There is no doubt you will be pleasantly surprised with the "edge" the knives give you.

Mike

Hi Brendan,
Welcome to the forum.

You'll find a lot a good people here that are ready and willing to share what they know with you.

This is a place you can ask pretty much any thing and you won't be flamed or called a dumbass.

You can like other knifes, flashlights, Chevy's..ahh I mean cars and trucks and it doesn't matter to us.
Speak your mind.

You might want to check out the thread at the top of the page...
Not the forum decorum, but the picture thread.
Lots of older and limited edition pictures there.

Jerry Busse has been making knifes for 20 years and has headed up Busse Combat for 10 years.
Lots of "Cool" stuff over the years.
(I wish I owned some of it)

Hang out, make yourself at home and once again...Welcome.

Welcome Brendan,

I don't need anything big. About 9 inches or so, but strength and quality is what I'm looking for !!

I take this to mean 9" OAL and if that is correct, then here are some to look at:
-badger attack III 9.75" OAL, 3/16 stock INFI
-public defender 9.5" OAL, 3/16 stock INFI
-groove master 9.25" OAL, 3/16 stock INFI
these are all "variations on a theme" with different blade/handle shapes, they're all Nuclear tough, just depends on your intended uses.
For something a bit smaller (and a bit dressier, but no less tough) the brand new active duty has been turning a lot of heads lately here's the link you'll need for the active duty http://www.bussecombat.com/ml/index_activeduty.html

From Swamp Rat in the 9" range:
-bandicoot 9" OAL 3/16 stock SR101
-howling rat 9" OAL 3/16 stock SR101

You mentioned tough and quality. Well, I can tell you, all of these blades have Jerry Busse standing behind them so if you can get one to fail you when you need it, I feel confident saying that you will be taken care of by Jerry(and most likely by him personally). But my bet would on the knive and you'll never need that famous warranty. But it makes it a LOT more relaxing using an expensive blade to do any and everything you REALLY want to use your knife for.

Get one, you wont be dissappointed, and you probably wont have only one for very long (just a wild guess) BTW of all the knives mentioned my personal favorite is the badger attack III with snakeskin micarta -it's all that and a bag of chips!
