I just want to give a big public Thank You to my friend, Jon (klineh), for a beautiful and incredibly generous gift he sent my way. It is this Laguiole Fontenille Pataud, as re-handled by glennbad:

Jon had earlier put up a thread about this special knife, with much better pics than I can manage: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ed-up-rotten-knives?highlight=glennbad+busted

I have never before owned a Laguiole, so this is a new and interesting experience for me. I am really just blown away by Jon’s gesture. We have had many dealings and bought and sold several knives between us. Jon is the consummate gentleman and all round great knife guy, and I am proud to be his friend. I have a small thank you gift en route to him at this moment, and although it is not nearly as exotic as the knife he sent me, I hope he enjoys it.

Thanks again, Jon. You are the finest example of the friendly, knowledgeable, and generous men and women who make up the Trads forum.

Andrew

Edited to add one more pic---showing the Chinese yuan coins which accompanied this fine knife. They were acquired by John's dad on his last trip before retirement as an international corporate pilot---how cool is that?!

A beautiful gift, well done to both of you! I have always admired laguioles although I have never had chance to even see one in person, they are very fine looking knives, that one is particularly nice!

Wow that is a real beauty. It almost looks like the blade is patina's carbon. Is it? Amazingly generous. Enjoy it.

Great stuff guys and a beautiful knife

Thank you for the kind words Andrew. Andrew is a very cool fellow with whom I've thoroughly enjoyed our occasional encounters during my time on this forum. He's incredibly generous with sharing his research and knife knowledge, and thoroughly impressed me doing two consecutive annual knife sell offs/fundraisers in the Exchange forum with all proceeds going to his local animal shelter. As selfless and easygoing as they come, to echo Andrew's sentiments I too am proud to call him a friend.

Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to receive a gift of no small means in return from Andrew. I will document the goodies shortly!

Yep, FP offers C75 blades (1075 or thereabouts equivalent?) on a number of their patterns. They do a nice job with the stuff in my opinion, gets blistering sharp with minimal effort and holds an edge pretty well.
