What great people we have here on the porch! Last week I received a PM from Wurrwulf. He had seen a few of my inquisitive posts about Opinel knives and took it upon himself to send me a brand new carbon #8! The knife arrived yesterday and I'm pretty excited as this is my first.

I had read through the many threads here and I find myself with many of the pleasing impressions that others get from these knives. It is simply constructed yet extremely functional. The blade is thin with nice grinds and very sharp. I like the lock rings simplicity and the versatility it brings. Lastly the handle is a blank canvas to be modified for each individual users comforts. It is a winner in my book.

Thank you Shawn, it was extremely thoughtful of you to send this my way and I do appreciate it. I look forward to putting this one to work, continuing to bond with and expanding my impression of its limitations and capabilities.

Enjoy it, my friend. I know it will be used well on your upcoming work trips, and I'm excited to see any modifications you make to it!

Alan, you're too kind, my friend.

Congrats on the new Opinel, StoneBeard, and thanks for telling how you came to have it!!:thumbup:
I have an Opinel #7 I keep in the kitchen, and, although I usually use others of my pocket knives that I rotate through kitchen duty a week at a time, whenever I do grab the Opinel for some food prep, I wonder why I have other knives if cutting is the only criterion. As Carl (jackknife) always says, "They cut like the dickens!"

Shawn is one of BF's finest. Enjoy the Opinel.
When Alan is right, he's right!

Accolades to you, Shawn, for your unquenchable generosity!:thumbup: Alan is often too kind, but not in this case! :D

Good show Shawn!

And, congrats StoneBeard on your first Opinel! I bet you'll enjoy it. There's a lot to be said for its combination of simplicity and ability.

I received a wonderful package in the mail yesterday from Mike that totally blew me away! Mike very generously sent out a SAK Waiter, a knife I've had my eye on for close to a year, and a pint of Monkish Biggie Biggie Biggie Triple IPA. Mike said that this beer sold out within hours of being available and was only available at the brewery. So, here I am in my little suburb outside of New Orleans with a beer that could only be purchased within a couple hours time span in the Los Angeles area. I'll be cracking it open and sharing it with my homebrewing brother tomorrow, and I'm incredibly excited to try it out.

Thank you, Mike. The SAK is fantastic and will serve years of bar top duty in my household. The fact that you would pass along such a scarce beer to me speaks volumes. Look for me in the Beverages and Blades thread tomorrow!

They don't come better than Wurrwulf. I have seen and benefited more from his generosity than anyone on this forum, and that is saying something, because I have benefited from a lot of generosity here.

Excellent interactions, Shawn and Mike! IMHO, our society is becoming more mean-spirited and discourteous every day (at least partially because of the anonymity of the internet), so I sure welcome my trips to this little sheltered utopia we call The Porch. Thanks, everybody (including, and maybe especially, Frank and Gary)!:cool::thumbup::thumbup:

+1 to that sentiment GT. Could not agree more.

Ahh yes Shawn the Wurrwulf definitely one of the most generous young men on the porch. It puts a big smile on my face when I see the younger folks discover the joy of sharing with others in the midst of this "me me me it's all about me" world we live in. He is not alone there are many like him here that love to give not only of possessions but of kindness of words. What a great place it sure makes an old man happy.

Sheesh! I'm gonna hafta come up with a standard "way to go!" for all these fine acts! Everybody here is just great, Stonebeard and Wurrwulf too! You guys both did a fantastic job here, and honestly I don't know which knife is better. Oh yeah-the beer! Clear(or darker) winner! :D Cool guys, really cool.
Thanks, Neal

You are very welcome Shawn:thumbup: I am really glad that you enjoyed both the knife and beer and was glad I could repay your generosity. I feel fortunate to be part of a place with so many stand up people-

Well done gents, nice to see the friendship between two great porch members :)
