I’d just like to thank Joe Houser for some outstanding service. I sent in two of my Bucks a couple weeks ago. My PCKS 110 needed a little blade engraving, and my 560 was dying for a BG-42 blade upgrade. Both came back to me this weekend, and in gorgeous condition. And boy am I glad to have my 110 back!!! I’ve felt positively naked without it. I feel complete again with The Angry Beaver strapped back to my belt. :D

All of this brings up a little learning I did while my 110 was in the shoppe. I purchased a Big Sky the day my knives were mailed back to Buck. I took to the Big Sky very quickly. I was in the Adirondacks the last couple weekends, searching through the forest for exceptional pieces of wood to make walking sticks out of. I found a huge area of standing dead trees this weekend, most of which were cedar. Cedar is some great stuff. It’s strong as a rock, and light as a feather; excellent walking stick material. Anyways, I had to climb halfway up the dead saplings until they broke loose from the ground. Then I had to cut both ends of the stick out of the full length. The pieces I was cutting out were about 3 inches thick. I literally had to use the Big Sky like an axe to get through the tough cedar, hacking big chunks out of the wood. The Big Sky did an awesome job, and didn’t notice the beating whatsoever. So I learned the value of a fixed blade this weekend. I never would have tried this kind of stunt with a folding knife. I’ll be carrying a fixed blade through unknown areas of woods from now on, and my 110 around the camp.

My next step will be to begin carving designs into the cedar lengths, as I already finished debarking them with the Big Sky. I’ll be carving for the next couple weeks with my Buck Cadet, adding handle grooves and some artistic embellishments. They should be some beautiful examples of outdoor craftsmanship when they’re all done. And they’ll be 100% “Cut By A Buck”. :)
