Like most everyone these days, we're behind on a few bills and scrabbling to catch up. Still, nothing too terribly bad.
So, I was mightily shocked yesterday when a process server showed up at my door with a subpeona; I was being sued for the outstanding balance on my bank credit card.
What's this? Not so much as a form letter? Just slapped with a lawsuit?
I stewed about the thing all night. Then, I got to leafing through the subpeona which ran to many pages due to the inclusion of the entire "credit agreement" from the credit card agency.
Finally, I got to the last page....It wasn't me.
Same name, different address, different zip code, different total amount owed, and different account number.
When they issued the thing, they must have just looked for the first listing of my name in the phone book.
Pays to read the fine print.....
