It all started out as a day full of bad news. I won't get into that, but the important thing to note is that it inspired this spur of the moment adventure.
As I sat in my office I was thinking to myself " Why the hell do I live in the city and have to deal with this BS?" Suddenly an idea jumped into my head. "Will my minibike fit in the backseat of my car?" It fit, snugly but it fit.
THE ADVENTURE WAS ON
My favorite thing in the world is offroading. LOVE IT. whether it be on a motorcycle, in a truck or just being out in the middle of no where with some guns. About 9 months ago i blew up the engine in my truck virtually halting my offroad adventures that i typically partook in 2-3 times a month. Not today however, it was ON!!! Dangerous or not, I was rolling out solo and I was prepared for an adventure.
Self portrait on the way out-
quick list of the things that I had with me-
Pw80 heavily modified running on race gas
My ever faithful BK2. Stripped, natural patina, custom scales by a buddy of mine. simple, utilitarian, sexy
MRE
Zippo
Surefire E2D LED defender
Water, LOTS of water
med kit
riding gear
After about an hour of driving the destination is in sight!
ON THE DIRT!!! I MADE IT!!!!
Once i was parked I unloaded the bike and started to get ready for my ride. I knew that i was going to be hungry after i got back so i used my BK2 to get into an MRE and lay it all out in the sun so it would be warm when i got back.
after getting everything ready it was TIME TO RIDE. The BK2 stock sheath is amazing at keeping the knife put when riding. Here is my setup for the day. Never once did i feel like i was going to lose it. Mind you this minibike can hit upwards of 50 MPH offroad!
TIME TO RIDE!!!!!
The trails I decided to take were to get me to a single track ridgline trail that is pretty intense on my rm250. I had never done this trail on my PW80 but i thought " what the hell, it couldnt be that much harder" So off I went
Stopped at the first over look, miles and miles of trails
The first part of this mission is to make it over to a place that we call " the overlook". It is a relatively mellow ride through a beautiful valley. Lots of whoops and elevation changes, but VERY FAST.
Took about 45 min to get to my first stop. Bet you can't figure out why we call it "the overlook"
From here the trail gets wild. We call it "the ridgeline". It's without a doubt one of the gnarliest trails in the entire area.
here is the beginning
off to the side.
about 300 yards into the trail you start to realize what you have gotten yourself into. it is about 1-2 ft wide and drops off about 100-200 ft on either side. To say that it is intense is quite the understatement.
And then...... it gets really gnarly!!!!!
I couldnt get too many pics of the insane parts as you cant really stop since it is so narrow. I did manage to stop for a second on the sketchiest part of the trail to get a pick of this drop
my tire is literally a foot away from the edge. That drop is vertical for about 150 ft and then you have a solid tumble of another 100 till you would hit the bottom. the other side is almost identical.
Rode for another 30-45 till the trail mellows out, I MADE IT!!!!
The ride was spectacular. Didn't part ways with the bike once! Only had one close call but it was one where i was laughing and cheering the whole time!!!!
Stopped to take in the scenery and shoot a self portrait.
Damn I'm handsome!
Once I made it back to the car I ate my MRE, sorry no pics and then abused a couple things with my BK2
Considered building a fire, but decided against it as it was just too dry.
The sun was starting to set so i decided on another ride to "the road" this entire ride is high speed so i only got a couple pics of the destination. 3rd gear pinned the whole way! ( bike only has 3 gears, lol).
It is far away, nearly 15-20 miles round trip depending on how you decide to go. Admittedly i was a little nervous leaving this late in the day on such an ambitious goal, but whatever, it was ON!
at the destination-
quick pic of "the road"
didnt get too many pics here as this spot always feels sketchy to me. Being that i was out here by myself i decided to snap a few pics and head back. Last thing i wanted to do was turn a good time into a bad time. As we all know that can happen REALLY fast.
another cool pic of hillside "the road" is carved into
Half way back to camp the sun dipped over the hills for an amazing sunset
It was dark by the time i got back, so no more pics. but it was a succssful mission!
No injuries
nothing broken
only good times!!!!
Stella was very happy that I made it home all in one piece!
