i have been toying with a new design for a couple of months. i finally put it to paper a month ago. it just sat there taunting me. i finally had a break in between filling orders. i laid out a profile and it say there for a week. i finally put some angles on this profile and it sat there. i finally went to heat treat this big boy and when i pulled it from the temper oven i noticed a subtle warp near the tip. well crap. i haven't had a blade warp in years. i cuss and fume for an evening and try again the next day. after annealing and redoing the entire process, there was that little slight curve near the tip.
OK, third time is a charm. only this time while it was still hot from the temper oven, i take it to the anvil and carefully work it straight. don't know if i am screwing up or not. i figure it is already warped so why not. with almost no effort, looking perfect and all is well. i couldn't help but notice every time i tried to re-HT this particular blade, it would become dark and windy and it felt like the coming storm would blow my little shop away. when i was done, so was the storm. were the fates trying to keep me from making a blade? i am not really superstitious but i think i will name this blade accordingly. how about " The Blasphemer"?
