Sarah (my ex) once asked me why I kept giving away my knives. I have 7 knives here. I've had more and had less. I've noticed that as time goes on, they get more $$$er. Not a surprise. The last one I gave away was a Cold Steel Pocket Bushman. Gave that to Diane's (Diane is now my wife) dad. He's PG&E so he will get some use out of it. I sold both my waved Tarani karambits. Sold my Lone Wolf Lobo and S.W.A.T. Fishtail for tattoo money. I didn't make any money off them but I'm fine with that. For the few months I owned them, I consider the money I lost in the sale a "rental" fee. Not bad. Not only that, but I get to give somone the opportunity to own a good blade much below my cost.
I'm slowly turning towards custom peices. The Dremel is the only tool I have for doing all the knife mods I post pics of. There is so much more I want to do, but am limited by my living situation. My apartment has no garage. So, I send things out to guys like Reese Weiland http://www.reeseweilandknives.com/ who I might add is AWESOME to deal with. Then I have him making me proto damascus tanto auto from scratch. Then I have Paul Panak AKA Burn http://www.burnknives.com/ making me a swing guard auto that I have more than half way paid off ($500/$900). Before you know it you're working out next month's budget... $300 here... $200 there ....$250 for your DUI attorney.... and you still have to make room to buy that Spyderco Military in BG42 with carbon fiber scales you've been meaning to buy for the past 3 months.
Last night I was doing some photography and 3 knives in my hand. I stopped and thought about what I was holding... approx $1000 worth of knives in my hand.
So, this is where I'm at right now. If you think the best knife in the world is your Dad's Buck 110 or that Smith & Wesson SWAT you bought at the gun show for $40, then I don't expect you to understand any of this. If you don't think you have a need for a knife, that's fine. If you think that since you don't need one, then nobody else should have one either... then you can go (edit) yourself. I don't think that's a problem though. You did add me, so you must have some common sense
