Yeah, clear or translucent bottles with lids are better than aluminum cans or dark bottles just because of that :)

Having spent most of my life outdoors, I have been using bottles for so long that I tend to forget that cans are even a thing...but I did add that into the blog :)

Nice blog post Brian. I read somewhere that if bees were to become extinct it would result in catastrophic crop failures due to lack of pollination and could result in an extinction level event for humans.

I kept bees for many years. I was running 6 full hives. I even rebuilt after the great black bear raid of '07. But nothing can help me recover from the regular herbicide and pesticide use in the fields and farms around my place. The acres of corn and tobacco surrounding me are sprayed spring and fall, and I've watched my hives weaken and die year after year. I'd been running a 50% or more loss rate every winter, until a few years ago all my hives were either abandoned, or too weak to survive. Every spring I had dumped money into trying to build them back up, but after the total loss I just had to let it go.

Sad stuff.

That's a sad story Tony. The situation is worsened by places like Lowe's and Wal-Mart selling pesticided potted plants in their lawn and garden centers, that draw the bees to them, then kill them. That's among the reasons I have been glad to participate in the sort of renaissance that has been going on here locally for the last several years. Our little grocery store is a mom and pop business that has been locally owned by the same family for more than the 51 years I've been around. They support our local organic farmers and orchards. They sell their products in the store, and every week there is a farmer's market in their parking lot. It is a bit more expensive, and it cuts into my toy-buying budget a little, but overall it is really nice having locally raised, certified organic meats, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and honey, and they are working on a source for organic dairy as locally as they can find it. A few complain about either having to pay the price or shop off the mountain, but more folks take pride in it, and it has been great for our community.
