Hello all. Been away a while, my pockets needed it, and it was nice to get some family and farm time without the internet.
I hope everyone is doing well, staying safe, and staying healthy. I’ve missed the chats, pictures, and knowledge a lot more than even I thought I would.
A work buddy of mine picked up an old, used, beat up 110 at an estate sale for $6. Brought it to me to see what I could do with it, if anything. This thing was pretty rough, but I’ve dealt with the spa before (as we all have) and I figured it was well worth a shot. Worst case, he’s in it thirteen bucks.
Before pictures, as received from my work buddy:
Broken tip, seemingly ruined wood. Cancer all over the brass, and a slight bit of what looks like rust on the lock release. Hard and gritty, it didn’t want to open up very easily either.
Fast forward six weeks, and back she comes. I figured at the least they would clean it up a bit, sharpen it, and make it so it’d open and close. I also knew, no matter what, my buddy would be pleasantly surprised (he doesn’t have the spa experience that we do). So, here are some after pictures. Not perfect, but WOW night and day different than what I sent in. Refinished the wood, cleaned up the rust, took the chip out and sharpened (edge 2K for his ease of sharpening), and polished that brass to a shine.
Needless to say, he was more than impressed. I was too, considering the condition it went in. Those guys at Buck sure know what they’re doing. They can create life where it would otherwise be lost. My buddy gifted the knife to his son, who is in his late 20’/early 30’s, so this one has a second chance at living a full, useful life. I’m pretty happy with it, and glad I was able to help a friend give his son a lifetime gift.
