A bunch of knives and what do I discover?

This is awful.
I have a bunch of knives that were all ESSENTIAL purchases along the way.

And ...now.... whenever I pick up my very FIRST knife (purchased after the "any old thing" stage) I find that it does just about everything I need to do. (except whittle) :o

It is a Delica serrated #3 (before the larger, clumsier handle)
The peenty-point is so stickerly and the SE just whisks through everything with minimal fuss and effort.

But I ....HAD... to get all the others. :foot::foot::foot:

Tempted to try to sell the others but they have all acquired stories.
DAMMIT!

Yep. And if you sold any of them, you would regret it the very next day. Then you would have to find another one to replace it, but it still wouldn't be the same.

I have done this same thing. What I have found works is to box all other knives up and don't look at the for a few months or even a year. When you do open the box, you will be like a kid a Chirstmas time. I really enjoy pulling out a knife that I have not carried or even looked at in a while. Our tastes do change and moods may seem to like a knife one day and something different the next. I put away a Case Saddlehorn some years back. I pulled it out right before spring, and found it to be one of my favs.

When I pick up my first modern folder, I think...

"Holy crap. I am very happy that I kept learning! This thing is terrible!"

Kershaw Clash combo edge, bead blasted finish. Garbage.

This is not true of everyone my friend.

My advice to you op is if you've got a bunch of knives sitting around that don't get carried then sell them. Why not? I actually think it's liberating. Set aside your favorite 4 or 5 that you really love and set the rest free. :)

Then what would I do with the $12 I'd get for the batch? ;):D

:D

If it was a snake it would have bit you. :D

To be sure it is the right knife for your needs, play it safe and buy more. :D

This is actually the best advice. If you buy twice as many and still like the delica then you'll be TWICE as sure it's the only one you need!

Can't gettem no mo. Delica THREE!

If u like se spydies you probably need to try one of these anyway. This is by far my most used knife.

After slipjoint folders I bought a half dozen knives in my search for a more modern knife. My first knife that I consider a truly modern knife is my Benchmade AFCK, and it would do for me about as well as any of the knives that I've bought in the past few years. I was going through my box of EDC knives yesterday. I continue to wonder if I don't have too many, but I like them all and there are very few that I can decide to let go of.

Sucker!

j/k, half the fun of knives is trying different kinds out to find "the one", and then finding "the next one". My first real pocketknives were early Spyderco Native and Rescue models. A Manix 2 is in my pocket most days and it gets the job done better than those earlier knives. Steel and locks have come a long way.

I still have a few of the first Natives made by Colonial <<<<least I think that is who made them for Spyderco ! But they were made with cheap everything and Spyderco did not have them make anymore.** Might even be a different Knife Company that made them for them ~~ I don't remember.!*

Surfingringo I have a few of those H1's ~~ but the Delica ZDP189 is one of my favorite Spyderco Knives and if I just kept those that I have and sold the rest I could buy that 4 x 4 that I have been eyeballing here lately.!* lol

Lavan,

Long story short, same issue. What would I do with the $: eat one lunch with it?

Lance,

Though I do think it's liberating, the question of eating lunch out if your knives sale is bugging me. Unless I'm in financial duress

I buy knives that I don't need if I'm curious about them. Then I sell them if they don't seriously impress me. If they're in good shape I usually get my money back.

SurfingGringo, What model Spyderco's are those pictured?. Obviously they look like Pacific Salts but the tips on yours don't appear to have the modified sheeps foot tip. They look more like an Endura tip.

To the OP: I did the exact same thing starting with a first gen Delica full serrated blade. I still have that knife and after spending thousands of dollars beginning after reading an article in a gun magazine featuring the Emerson CQC6 custom, the Sebenza and several others I've come to the conclusion my first choice "Spyderco Delica" is the best overall emergency/utility use tool for me to carry. I wore out the first Delica although it's still usable. That knife was resharpened by Spyderco and is now retired.

I recently went through my knives and found that my tastes have really changed over the past few years. I found that I had about half a dozen that I didn't carry and a few others that were outclassed by other knives on my wish list. So, I sold them. Used the funds on a Manix 2 LW and Dragon Fly 2 LW. For me there was no emotional attachment, so it was easy parting with 8 so-so knives I didn't use for two great ones I do.

Yeah, me first real folder was a Benchmade mini Griptilian... i think.
Damn good design, it is just way too short for my current taste in swivelknives
