Hi guys and gals, :)

I was lucky to buy a bunch of pretty old SAK`s from a swiss collector last week. These were some of his doubles and some of what he called minor quality knives.

Here`s all of them:

These 2 babies are with Russell White, a great british knifemaker, for rehandling at the moment

Elsener 23, Elsener22, a VERY rare Elsener ~ 1901 and a VERY rare Elsener ~ 1898 with wooden scales

These Wengerinox 59 and 61 have so called Grillon handle scales, a material only a few were made of and are somewhat rare now.
In the meanwhile I got another Grillon handled Wengerinox from 1957 (my date of birth)! :D

The Victorinox58 is VERY rare too. It was presumed a long time, that there were NO date marked SAK`s handed to the army in 1958 until some very few showed up, finally. And I`m lucky to have one example even it`s got a pretty worn off blade. ;)

Here`s a pic of the newly buffalo horn clothed Elsener29 by Russell White.

Thanks a lot to Russell for the (somewhat blueish) pics ;) and for his remarkable work! :thumbup::thumbup:

What a find.

It would be nice if they would offer a new knife with the old design. I would like to carry one of those once in a while.

Great find. I also wish they would bring back some of the old styles.

They do. Check it out here. (I should warn you, however: Be sitting down when you look at the price :( )

That is really nice, but no way I am spending that. :D

I would just like a nice one to carry and use.

Wolfgang, Nice collection and good find. I really like the old Swiss knives.. Thanks for posting them..

Wow! I've never seen such a grouping of the vintage models.

Thank you very much for sharing those.

Wolfgang,

They are all a real vintage prize package indeed but that Buffalo Horn you are showing is just a sweetheart! :thumbup:

Thank You,

Anthony

Thank you very much for your kind words, guys! :thumbup:

Yes they offer that old SAK`s as a "special" right now. But I would rather add 100.- € to 200 € and get me an original than to spend that amount for a "copy". :rolleyes:

@Bob W
Bob you`ve got to see the collections of the 3 swiss collectors I got in touch with, lately! :foot::D
The one I got these SAK`s from has ~ 3000+ pocket knives with a collection of 500+ old SAK`s, only. :)

The other one I got me my 57 grillon handled one off has roughly the same amount of pocket knives with - at a wild and rough guess - 1500 to 2000 ancient SAK`s alone!!! :thumbup:

The next, Mr. Brunner, a very well known collector of pocket knives sems to have the biggest (largest?) collection of pocket knives worldwide with more than 6000 pieces :eek: :D:. He should be mentioned in Guiness book of world records already!?
His collection can be admired in a museum in St. Margrethen, Switzerland until march 2009. Might be worth a visit!? :D:D

Ya know, lookin at all those sak's made me think of something that was asked here a long time back.

I guess somebody's gandad did use a sak.:D

Holy cats! One man's trash is another man's treasure, I guess. That's pretty impressive! I'd like to see the ones the guy kept! :eek:

That`s what I thought as well! :D

Boy thats a nice lookin' sak. :thumbup:

I'm liking that clip blade.
Should be one heck of an EDC.

Peter

I never knew that old SAKs had clip points and brown scales like that. Very cool!

Question: were the scales redder to begin with and change color through the years or were they brown from the get go?

@stockman242
Thanks, Peter! :thumbup:

@PB Wilson

The 1st and 2nd from bottom was what they started with in 1894? and changed to the 1st and 2nd from top in 1908 as I`m correct.
They changed back to drop (spear) point in 1950.

The scales are such a brownish red or redish brown :D from the beginning, me thinks.
