So I got a wild hair about 9 months ago, and sent a large Queen stockman to Al Warren....as most of you know I hate brass, and nickel silver....so the plan was to take the VERY nicely patterned D2 Queen blades, duplicate them in a full custom, and since the pattern was used as a rough template, refurbish the blades in a stainless frame.

There are no handle pins because Al did a full dovetail, and glued them.

Please let me know what you think, this pattern will become a regular offering from him now he has made one for me.

WOW. That is really nice looking.
The SS looks great without all the shinyness.

Now I'm gonna be on his site all morning.

Steven,That's beautiful, thanks for posting & showing it.I've had a few custom slipjoints from Al Warren, the flat ground S30V blades were great cutters,he makes real nice knives.
He has his own pattern stockman,as well, with a pen & warny as the two smaller blades.
So am I understanding this correctly,he put the Queen template knife back together with ss liners ?

Are you going to carry the pearl custom version?

Al is a real nice guy & great to deal with, and stands behind his work.Congrat's to both of you,

Vince,

Thanks, I started working with Al after you posted some pics on BF, and I met him at the Knife Expo in Pasadena.....so, you are to blame.:D

The Queen knife has been reassembled with a stainless steel frame and liners, this is correct.

I will probably not carry the pearl stockman but a little, there is another Queen stockman that he is building me that will have pearl scales for the D2 blades that is maybe better sized for carry.

Congrats, Steven. I was trying to picture it in my mind when we chatted last night and now I can see it even better.

Nice one and it's good to know that another avenue has been opened up for those seeking a quality piece at a reasonable price.

Who are you, and how did you get Steven's password?

Posting pics of your knife, and in the folksy forum at that?

Seriously, great score, and great design. Congratulations.

STeven, Nice project the work turned out superb. Hope you can use them to your satisfaction. I'm not a fan of Dovetailed Bolsters as they don't follow traditional spring back knife form. The scale material choice on both knives was great.

Thanks....

Al makes a pretty good knife...not perfect, but not priced like perfect either.

I like dovetailed bolsters quite a bit, but am not much of a traditionalist beyond basic shapes, as Gus, Elliott, Shaldag, and others will happily share with you.

The only custom slipjoints in my collection up until now are in stag or pearl.

Very nice mate!
Al does good work & is a great bloke to deal with.
Cheers

It looks great! The original Queen is my favorite Stockman so far. I have some knives from mr Warren, but only mid locks. Does it have strong springs? Same as the original?

I'll let you know when it is in my hands.

Nice knife.

Al has allowed me the opportunity to utilize some of his time so I can learn to make knives over this past year. I've mostly focused on kitchen cutlery given my occupation. He's a great person.

Springs are really "snappy", seems like the stag one is the original...the pearl one is the BEST custom that Al has made for me, really super!
