I have carried a Cabela's Mini-Grip in D2 for years. Decided to get their 940 also in D2, partly based on the reviews here and it's looks. I had some points, Cabela's had a 20% off and when I got to checkout got another discount for being a veteran:thumbsup:.

I have used and carried this knife for several weeks and love it. It truly disappears in my pocket, centering, fit and finish are perfect. It will be my EDC for a long time. Preston

Looks great man. That 556 looks like it has years of life left in it too!

I’ve had that model for about a year or so now and still love it. The combination of the carbon fiber and stabilized wood look really nice to me. Looks like you got a great deal on it.

That was the first 940 I ever held since I'm more into traditional knives and I instantly fell in love with that knife. They're really great looking. It made me like the 940 pattern, but that's the only one I would want....

I like it the best out of all the variants EXCEPT the D2 steel, I wish is was s30v or even cpm 154... I would have bought it in an instant. It's a beautiful knife!!

As I said in my OP, I've carried the Cabela's Mini-Grip in D2 for years and it has served me well. I have used it for many tasks, it sharpens easily and holds an edge well. I have knives in S30V and CPM 154 but just haven't used them as much, so I can't really judge the virtues of those steels and compare them to D2.

When I build up the knife fund I might get a 940 in one of those steels and be able to compare. Preston

I really like the looks of the cabelas 940 a lot. The wood and carbon really looks sweet togather. I already have the allum 940, 940-1 carbon and ordered the 940-1501 this week so yes I like the 940 design a lot :)

Folks really seem to go nuts over knife steels a lot more then me personally. There's nothing steel wise I own that I can't get razor sharp. Some are more crossion resistant, others need a little TLC after heavy use. There's several really good knife steels available today we are very lucky.

I have several commercial and custom knifes made with D2 steel no complaints at all from using them last few years. It's a hard steel, holds edge well and sharpens easy enough to a hair poping edge. A little oil after heavy use and your good to go.

I have had my eye on the Benchmade 300 version they sell with D2 Blade Steel. I just prefer the D2 over 154cm and think it makes the knife feel more solid.

If you don't mind me asking .. How did you get 20% off?
Thank You
