Or at least a month or two of it. That's what I'm looking at planning.

I want to save up some cash this summer and fall and hopefully find a cabin to rent somewhere in the south Ohio / northwestern West Virginia area during a month or so in the middle of winter.

I've never done anything like this, so I don't really know where to start looking for places to be. As far as location goes, I want to be at least a couple miles out from a town, in an area dominated with mountains, trees and wildlife. Just a nice, quiet month of seclusion to study nature, live a more primitive lifestyle and probably read / write / play music on an acoustic guitar. Something along those lines.

Any suggestions for where I should start looking?

Are there any local hunting/fishing publications in the area you are interested in? Here in Maine there are several of them, all of which have ads for rental cabins. You might also check with local realtors or rental agents.

Wayne national forest is in southern Ohio, and may be just what you are looking for. They have a bunch of ATV trails in the area too that I want to go ride sometime. I don't know the website for cabins, but I'm sure an internet search would produce a lead for you.

Cook forest in Pennsylvania is also very nice, and I have stayed in a cabin there for a weekend.

Depending on what you are into I'd highly reccomend the cabins at Seneca State Forest near Marlinton WV.

They are pretty cheap to rent, very private, there's a lake and hiking trails, and the cabins themselves are gas lights, a fireplace for heat, and wood burning cookstoves, outhouses a pump for water and a propane refrigerator. Really retro!

If you want more civilization. Watoga State Park near Seebert WV are pretty good too.
