Hi,

I am thinking in getting some needed information on knife forging. This would be only at the hobbyist level, but would still like to get a very deep understanding of the following arts :

1: Blade forging (techniques, knife dynamics, balance, tools required, steels available, heat treatment, polishing etc).
2: Handle carving (materials, technique, tools etc.).
3: Last but not least a good historical encyclopedia of all the blade designs created since the beginning of the art.

A good source of inspiration from history is never a bad thing :). I understand most will recommend attending seminars and such, but first I would love to get my hands on the Bibles required for knifemaking :)

Hope you guys can point me in the right direction, hate buying stuff on a whim and having to upgrade to get what I really needed the first time.

thanks!

Hey Dark,

Your name is fitting as you are about to enter the DARK side. Once you get the bug you cannot quit. Fill out your profile, esp your location and you might just get invited to a shop or hammer-inn.

A book by Hank Reinhardt has just been published, if metal blade history is your interest, he presents a lot of information. I reviewed it for Blade Magazine a few months ago, Titled "The Book of Swords" it has a lot more information in it that just swords. Blades from the beginning of time, their evolution and development. I learned a lot from reading it.
