Hi guys. I am planing on making a simple forge from an old car wheel (rim). A friend mentioned that the ZYNC content in the rim might be toxic if the rim is heated. Any experts care to confirm or deny this?
Thanks!

I'm far from an expert but I do know that different car rims are made of different materials they might be chrome coated and made of some alloy, or they might be aluminium, or some steel with a clear coat or paint on it, I would imagine that would make a big difference

As far as I know this is a classical steel rim. It has some paint on it but I'll burn it with an O/A torch before using it.

The rim may be deeper than you need. I used a plow disk for mine, with a fire brick on either side of the grate to keep the coal corralled. It'll burn steel with just a couple of inches of coal, so it gets plenty hot.
