A case against the runt

Although if the guy did have a Runt he could have tossed it in the bear's mouth, let him swallow it and cause internal injuries leading to ultimate death. Not so sure if the guy would have lived to tell the story. In these situations, size does matter. Too bad it didn't identify the brand of knife used.

They could at least show the knife.

If I'm hunting (or in my case camping or backpacking), a Runt isn't the only blade on me.

If a Bear attacks me on the 4th floor of my office building while I only have my Runt, then kudos to the bear. :D

^^ ditto on what Thurin said about if I'm in the woods the Runt would not be the only knife I have on me! I love my Runt and carry it all the time, but that's because I live in an Urban setting. I leave the city and I've got a larger knife with me.

It looked like a standard USMC Ka-bar. They show the knife in a picture frame. He'll have a hell of a story to tell his grandkids...

ah, I missed that.

It's pretty amazing that he was able to fight it off and survive.

For sure that knife is not a USMC Kabar. It looks like a cheap $29 "survival" knife. It did the trick though.

It's always amazing what a determined human is capable of. On one of the ranches I worked in Guatemala there was a woman, in her early 40's, who killed a Puma with a machete. Said it came in between her and her baby while she was tending their garden. Only thing she could find to defend the baby was the machete. I tell you what, that woman is a sight braver than me. She had a broken arm and some nasty scars but her and the kid walked away from the encounter.

Of course you also have the ultimate story:
BotW: 78 year old beats Grizzly with a stick

Don't defend yourself from bears with Fiddleback knives. Or, um, with any knives. If you are hunting and chasing bears, be careful and properly armed.

LOL

I was lucky enough to be invited to a bear hunt in Quebec with my father and his friends. I was not happy to learn that we will have bows and bows ONLY due to the hunt being in Canada. I'll let you guys know how well bear mace works...

Come on guys!
Product placement!

Because the bear would stop and say "cool! Where can I get one?"
Then I'd have to explain...

Wow he got lucky the $29 didn't brake lol. I hope after this experience he will buy real knife ;)

Um .. so he tracks a wounded bear without large caliber firearm on his person? Stupid is as stupid does.

I wouldn't track a bear with anything less than a Duke. And a 44 magnum. And a minimum of 308 with hot loads.
