I ordered a Cat and a Chicago from NC and can see them bouncing around the country with FedEx. Any knife under $50 that has S30V and fits nicely in a pocket can be my hard use EDC. Since they are small I can carry both at the same time.

Yep they should be another hit for Spyderco  Still waiting for my dealer to get them in. By the way, did I read it right? the chicago has a 2" blade and the Cat is 2.1" if thats the case, there's not much of a difference.

Chicago Blade Length: 1.95 in (b/c of the sub. 2" blade law within the city of Chicago)
Cat Blade Length: 2.36 in.

okey dokey, I guess the Persistence is a wee bit bigger then.I'd like to see a pic with them together, just for comparison.

Is that NC as in North Carolina? What online dealer is located here? Wasn't aware of any.

Been carrying my Cat since I got it. I love the little guy.

Prime, how's the fit and finish on the Cat? I've been getting mixed reports.

Thanks

Fit and finish is good. Good solid lockup with no blade play. Nice snap when closing the blade. The jimping may not be as nice as on some other Spydies. The CF scales fit the fit the metal liners perfect. Overall I am happy with it.

That Cat reminds me of a mini-Caly 3...can you do a photo comparison of those two? And how much are the Cat's retailing for?

Well FedEx finally delivered my Cat and Chicago today. I thought I would post my initial impressions of these little knives. Both knives open and close smoothly, have a solid lock up and no side to side play at any point. The liners aren't as shiny and buffed as I see on my Captain and are made with a slightly lighter alloy. The jimping was a little dirty but it's not much effort clean up. Everything is put together with torx screws which I like a lot on my spyders for easy adjustments or do it yourself repairs. The wire clip looks exactly the same as the one on my UKPK and Caly but like the liners appears to be made of a lighter alloy. The carbon fiber handles have a smooth finish but are a bit rough on the edges compared to the fit and finish I see on my CF Caly. The blade is CPMS30V and has slightly larger than expected spydie hole (13mm on the cat and 12mm on the Chicago). Overall the knifes look very solid even if they don't have the most pristine finish.

Apocaly, do you think that you will use one, more than the other?
Just trying to talk myself out of buying both models :p

I personally would EDC the Cat a bit more often than the Chicago. The Cat's handle fit's my hands a bit better and I can get a full grip on it for some harder use tasks. The Chicago however fits really nicely in my front watch pocket of my jeans so I wouldn't be neglecting it entirely. To solve your dilemma I would just get both.
