It's no secret I have an obsession with the Mini Grips. I've been using them since they were first released, and still carry on everyday.. I like them enough that I have 6 in the drawer that have never been carried or used
Like many, I have looked at the full size Grip numerous times, in hopes of finding an attraction to that model as well, but they never had the same feel as the Minis, mostly because the don't have full liners, so I have never given them any further attention.
A couple days ago, I had time to kill on my way to work, so I ventured into the local Sportsman's Warehouse to look around. Of course my first stop was the knife counter
I have been eying the ZT0566CF for awhile, and as luck would have it, they had the 0566 but it wasn't CF, but it gave me a chance to check it out.
It is a very nice, and substantial knife, although it seemed rather hard flipping it open.
As I looked in the case, the first BM I noticed was a full size Grip. Normally I would even bother, but for some strange reason I asked to see it.
I already knew in my mind I wasn't going to like it, but after opening it and playing with it, I found myself not ready to put it back.
Granted, it is bigger than the Mini, but for some reason this knife felt good, and I didn't notice the "cheap" feeling I noticed in the past
After reading numerous complaints of BM's QC, I looked this knife over very well, and found zero faults...
The blade was centered, the grind was decent, it was sharp like the BM's of old, and it had a very solid feel. One thing that really stood out was, as I opened the blade, and it locked into position, it had a very crisp click. I don't recall any of my BM's ever sounding so crisp.
I didn't pull the trigger on this one, but it now has me paying more attention to the full size Grips. I'm guessing it is me that has changed over time, because I couldn't find any obvious changes to the full size Grip.
Anyone else find that over time you have come to like a particular knife, that you never really cared for in the past ?
