The first "real" knife I ever bought was an Endura. I was impressed by the steel and the way it opened. Then I got a Military and an AFCK. G-10, wow! I never wanted to go near zytel again. Then I got a Sentinel, my first aluminum handled knife, very interesting. Now I only like aluminum, titanium, or micarta handles.

My first blade was serrated, then I moved to combo, now unless I'm camping or hiking, I only plain edges.

I really got into coated blades, I liked the all black look and I still do, but more I more I find myself going back to satin or polished blades.

Basically I've gone from an all black serrated Endura, to looking at the satin finished, plain edge, aluminum handled multi-coloured Ken Onion Boa. What a radical change over the last two or three years. Has anyone else noticed a change in what they want, or do you find yourself sticking to a pattern?

Changes all the time Johan.
I'm back buying fixed blades again after swearing off them for a couple years.
The truely wonderful thing is the huge amount of things we have to choose from.

johan, if you are talking about the benchmade sentinal, it is made of g10 and titanium liners.

Shawn, the Benchmade Sentinel has aluminum not G-10 handles the Darkstar has G-10. Larry

I've seen several sites referring to the 880 as the 'New Sentinel' instead of the Darkstar, since it was created to replace the 875 Sentinel (from what I've heard, anyway, and BM has removes the 875 from their site). The 880 has G10 handles, while the 875 had aluminum handles.

Probably where the confusion came from, right?

The same thing with me! First I was into all black blades with a 50/50 blade, And now it is a satin blade with just a plain edge. Handle materials I won't even go there. I have been into them all. Blade shapes, First it was drop point and then it went to tanto. now I am back to drop point.

Johan, I agree with you on this. Initially I was quite infatuated with sharp objects and anything that looked good, went on my "to get" list. Now, my infatuation with knives has grown into a true liking for knives, I now am more discriminating as to what I actually do purchase. I purchase on the basis that the knife is a good design, well made and definitely a user. Whether it is a custom made or a production blade is not an issue.

Incidentally, I started with fixed blades, went to folders, and now am getting both types, but only what I consider to be good quality blades. I have BladeForums and other knife discussion boards to thank for my development as a blade enthusiast.

I've changed my idea on blade shapes too Kozak. I used to love tanto but now I find that while they look great, they're not as useful (to me) as a clip or drop point. As the years go by I discover what I need in a knife. 90% of the time I need something that can slice (belly) not penetrate. The biggest thing with me now is handles, metal and micarta.
