Hey guys. Just wanted to drop a message for anybody new to multi tools. I've carried everything over the years from cheap multi tools to expensive. I've had those cheap Wal-Mart ones when I was about 10 and got one in the mail, then got a buck buck tool, which was awesome, but I wore that out in a few years. So my four latest multi tools I've had (i'm 25 now, so been using them for about 15 years), are a Leatherman surge, wave, ST300 and Swiss tool. I dislike the ST300 a ton. I gave it to my brother. Pain to use, hard on the hands and boring. The surge is just the opposite. Very feature filled, but clunky. I hated how cheap it sounded. It was also very bulky on my side. But I dealt with it for a while. Then a buddy of mine bought me a wave. I like the wave. I had a pocket clip from my surge so I popped it on. It came with me everywhere. It lacked though. I felt it was kind of small to handle some tasks. The removable screwdriver bits are great, but they don't fit into a lot of places. Very limited, even with the bit extension. So eventually I came back to the multi tool I've had longer than those three, the Swiss tool. Even though it doesn't have a replaceable bit, it has very useful tools that cover everything the Leatherman can do, and then some. I also love the robustness, rust proofness, and reliability of it. It disappears on my hip. I also love the saw, my SAK's also have this same saw. My only gripe is the plier heads, I wish they were a bit pointy, but it's not a big deal. So all my Leatherman have been put aside, and now I have the Swiss tool. Probably until it dies.

Well I see what you mean but you should go on ebay and get a old leatherman wave Instead of two removable bits
It has 4 Sizes of flat head and one long shank phillips head

Leatherman just feel cheap to me. I gave three models a chance. They rust, clank and break easily. I snapped the 1/4" tip off of an original supertool whittling balsa wood!

I'm a huge swisstool fan! My favorite big one is the Swisstool RS, and for small carry the spirit x. Fantastic tools.

Weird. Ive had the opposite experience with my Leatherman tools. The swiss tools and sog tools have a nice finish but they just dont work as well as the leatherman.

This matter comes up a lot. I can't account for the bad experiences with Leatherman sometimes reported on this forum, but mine have been otherwise. Although not exactly the opposite of the Vic multi-tools. which are very well made and reliable, I have found Leathermen to be tough enough and better for actual work.
In the past I have owned both a Swisstool and Spirit. After a fair trial, finding a lot to like in each, in the end I gave them up and instead use their Leatherman counterparts. I much prefer Leatherman pliers, screwdrivers, Charge Tti OH blades and bit system, ST300/Rebar replaceable wire cutters and in 16 years have never had corrosion or a failure on any Leatherman product, except once when it was clearly my fault, warranty repaired at no charge. Maybe some of us are working out bad karma ;) ?

I guess it doesn't matter too much about OHT because I keep a folder on me for that anyways. Out of the three I liked the wave the most. The pliers are soft and I've dented a few working, the serrations in the pliers flatten within no time.

I own a Leatherman micra, PST, Wave, Skele tool, and Wingman. The great thing about Leatherman multitools is the 25 year warranty so... if you broke a blade on balsa wood you can get it repaired for S&H. But I have noticed that small rust spots will develop on bead blasted areas in high humidity environments. I haven't had any issues besides that though.

I carry a Either a Victorinox Swisstool or Spirit. I wont ever go back to Leatherman after using these 2
