A cheap reliable knife

I have a lot of spydercos but I don't want to jack them up or lose them at work. I want to find a knife that is cheap and reliable that I can beat the hell out of and not cry if I lose it. I like the Spyderco tenacious but it's a little pricey for one i'm gonna really beat on. Plus every 8 year old and his brother has a tenacious.

Ontario Utilitac II. Tough as nails, several flavors available, and can be had for around $25.

Im a collector so I have hundreds on knives I dont like to use due to their price. I bought a Kershaw Thermite as my hard use, beat the hekk out of, I dont care if I lose it knife and I love it

Second the Utilitac. Although isn't the Tenacious almost same price? You looking for something cheaper than Tenacious? Steel will probably be better on Utilitac for cheaper. I'd just use your Teneacious though. But might as well just a Utilitac. Look through your couch cushions and under your car seats and you"ll have enough for Utilitac. Got mine for $22 and you can find them cheaper.

I've felt this way for quite some time, and my advice is to USE them. It's hard to beat up something you pay so much for I fully understand, but at the same time you pay that much for something that is capable of being beat on. And if you still can't let yourself do that to your babies, grab two of the same knife! Some say it's silly but it allows you to punish one while taking utmost care to the other, should the day ever arise that you destroy the former. That's not silly, that's reasonable from a collectors standpoint.

Remember they can't come with you when you leave this life.

To answer your question: Benchmade Griptillian.
It's not the cheapest, but I have and I have seen it put through it's paces. If you look at the "worn, beat up and war torn" thread there's a guy there who has used his to cut aluminum fence and open paint cans. You can see in his pics that the knife has seen a lot and still works perfectly with minimal maintenance.

I would say Cold Steel Mini Recon 1. I got mine for $35 shipped and they're still available for about that price. They are absolute tanks.

When you die, someone is going to toss or sell cheaply your pristine knives. Why not enjoy them, they are tools after all.

I would say check out the new lansky. I can't recall the name right off but I think it has 440c steel for around $12. I am grabbing one this week

I don't understand paying high dollar prices for high end knives of new production and being afraid to use them. So your willing to pay $200+ for a new knife but your going to carry around a $20 knife because your scared to mare your higher end knives? Just seems a bit silly if you ask me. I am willing to carry and use my $500 knives just the same as my $50 knives. Sure I have some safe queens that are bought for the sole purpose to complete a collection but to be honest it's only a few and they are actually quite inexpensive in comparison. I mean to each their own but I suggest you carry some of your better knives. After all you payed high dollar for quality, might as well get use out of some of them. At the end of the day they are just tools brother.

Another vote for the Utilitac II. Daddyo showed you his awesome round-handled, satin finish drop point in post #2.

Here's mine. Coffin-handled, coated tanto blade. Just to give you an idea of the options.
