This is a one of a kind a kind pipehawk for a couple of reasons. First - this is the last hawk head I forged - I forged it around 30 years ago to use as a camp axe. Second the metal used is irreplaceable - the eye is made from a wrought iron wagon wheel and the blade is steel from a wagon spring - both pieces were found along a remote section of the Oregon Trail in SW Wyoming in the early 1970's - how old they are I'm not sure, but the surrounding evidence suggested sometime from the 1840's. Well life changes and all that kept that project on the backburner until recently. I came across the head a few months ago and after getting some wrought iron rounds I thought about turning it into a pipe hawk. Serendipitously about the same time I got an inquiry for a pipe hawk so.............

The final product - this side of the drop my better half, Linda, beaded. She also did all of the beaded fringe...............

And this side of the drop yours truly beaded...............

A BIG NOTE OF THANKS: At first I considered shaping the bowl by hand, but due to circumstances I re-considered and enlisted the aid of Mike aka Fitzo who did a great job of turning it on his lathe - a real bear of a job considering the material........

ANyway Merry Christmas to ya'll from Chuck & Linda..........
