A CITY called BLADEFORUMS

Many of the newcomers probably look at some of the threads and wonder how we can all stick around after bickering in some threads.

The best way to describe this place is as a City.

You have tons of different forums which can be called neighborhoods. Some of these neighborhoods are quite large and thus a lot of bickering goes on. Some of the neighborhoods are smaller and not so intersubjectly mixed, so the people do not bicker as much.

You have people from all walks of life in every neighborhood and everyones voice counts.

Yes, there is bickering, but most of us are thick skinned enough to take it.

The big advantage to this City is that when we all pool our very diverse background's to solve a problem.

This huge melting pot reminds me of another place that some call America, but I call the United States of America.

I think I might tempted to call this more of a college. Where people come to think and learn....... and get involved (unlike most cities)
BUT your point is well taken, and I'm very appreciative to have such a place to get away to.

Now, excuse me while I break out my funny looking square cap. I and I fully expect a diploma when I hit 500 posts.

City? I always thought we were a community. But we are growing in number pretty fast. Uncivilized behavior sometimes breaks out in the density of civilization.

So, are we the Windy city? The Naked City? The City of Sin? Certainly we are not Not the City by Ebay. I think we must be then, the City on the Edge!

Its only natural that every once in a while someone pushes someone off.

I guess a Community comes close to what BF is for me. I've learned so much from the people here, far and above the knife related stuff. Sometimes, you seem like friends and sometimes more like family.

Some of the things I've learned here:
That it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

That you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better know something.

That either you control your attitude or it controls you.

That my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up.

That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

That your family won't always be there for you. It may seem funny, but people you aren't related to can take care of you and love you and teach you to trust people again. Families aren't biological.

That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

That just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

That two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

That we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

It is always amazing to me, how the dynamics here work. Sometimes it is easy to take a comment the wrong way or even make a post in the heat of the moment in anger. I usually never see that type of interaction when we are together at a show. Sometimes we just need to lighten up.

At the same time, there is a constant showing of concern for each other here when a member runs into a bad situation. Aside from many cherished friendships that have developed, this site has helped me grow in ways realated to and un-related to knives.

I think that this site is one of the greatest gifts to the knife community ever made and I do not know of many people who whould have put up with what they have put up with to create it and the comunity that has developed.

Thanks Mike; you too Spark and to all the folks here who share their knowledge and opinions, ask their questions, show their purchases, their creations and make me laugh at times. I would not enjoy this hobby (or even the Blade Show as much as I do) without Blade Forums and it's people. All of it's people.

Yes, The City on the Edge.

Various neighborhoods with various characters that sometimes vary in attitude and mood, but invariably come together to strengthen the whole.

It's like the city in which you grew up. You head out in different directions from it each day, but you never leave it.

It has it's elders, it's statesmen, and it's elementary school kids, and it's fun loving hooligans. It is 6000 residents strong and has a few thousand people who drive through and look around each day, just like any other city. But this city has something that others can only dream of getting.

A common interest shared by each and every member. This is my kinda town.

Humans, like most animals, are naturally social. I was watching the Discovery channel the other day, and during a drought in the middle of hot Africa there was a small pond. Animals which would normally attack each other in most circumstances where all in the same area drinking water from the same pond. The diversity was amazing and there was some fighting going on and vultures flying over head waiting, but the animals all kept drinking from the same pond.

No matter how large this community, city or whatever anology can be used, gets to be, the one constant is that we all are here to drink from the same pool of knowledge. Some will take a sip and move on, others will hang out for a few days or weeks and then go on about there lives, several will find this place a great place to hang out at and will never leave.

The cool thing is that no matter what the subject, whether it is a classic Mad Dog thread, a cool new Hermann sheath system or just a regular question, I am always amazed at how many are eager to help and welcome new comers aboard.

I find my free time slipping away daily and when I started this site I was certain that it would consume every waking hour. Well with all the help from the moderators, manufacturers and members I find that I can actually keep this place running without loosing my mind.

Thanks to all of you for making this place work. It is a testament to how teamwork can accomplish great things.

Now all I have to do find a way to get those damn vultures away

PhilL said it all. amen.

Velitrius, added to what I originally stated. The rest of you added even more dimension to my impression of this city or community.

Most of don't know what will be 5 or 10 years from now, but lets hope that our city on the edge is still here for us to gather our common interests.

Lets not loose sight of one thing; our type is a dying breed. Knife lovers are in the same boat as gun lovers and tobacco lovers. We are not liked to well by much of our own communities, especially if you reside in places like California, Maryland, NY, and several others. So even though we may disagree and even dislike one another due to some big arguments, understand that you probably have more in common with your fellow forumites than you do with most people you know. Take that into account when you are having a discussion with another member.

PhilL, I think I'm getting all misty eyed here *sniff*. Thanks pal
