I just got this email sent to me from my Bro who has been in Iraq since before the start of the war...

Subject: FW: A COMPANY OF SOLDIERS
From: 1st Cav. Div. Assn.

The film A COMPANY OF SOLDIERS will be broadcast next Tuesday night (February 22) on PBS at 9 PM (check local listings). It is the soldiers' story of fighting in Iraq - a month in the life of the 1st Battalion of the 8th Cavalry stationed in South Baghdad. It was shot last November during one of the most dangerous times for that unit.
A COMPANY OF SOLDIERS was made by October Films under the umbrella of the PBS Frontline Series and we'd like to ask you to email this to everyone you know with a request for them to send it on to everyone they know. We are hoping to get as many US Military families to tune in. One word of warning is that the film graphically shows the risks and consequences of what it is to fight in Iraq - so if you haven't told your loved ones, they might be in for a shock.

One senior confidential source at the Pentagon who has seen the film told us: "It is compelling stuff. It proves once again that it is our Soldiers who are our best spokespeople. It is not only courageous filmmaking (both figuratively and literally), but it's also an example of very insightful filmmaking. The film captures our Soldiers' humanity, putting a human face on a very complex set of issues - that is priceless stuff."

Thanks for the info Sweet! Didn't know this was coming and will definitely look out for it. Anything above and beyond what I can get on the nightly news is welcome.

Regards,

Norm

Frontline is one of the best shows on TV!

You can get past programs on tape. Some of my favorites they have done:

Rumsfeld's War
Saddam Hussein -from friend to foe
From Jesus to Christ - the first Christians - this is an all time classic-

I used to like Frontline until I double checked the facts on a gun special they did. They lied. It would not surprise me to see this special as a anti war program, but I will tune in.

PBS has swung a little from the hard left, but only a little. Frontline is BS. They ALWAYS sound like they know what they are talking about. But it is in how they cover any dissenting opinion to their own, and what they leave out, where their moral cowardice is revealed. They have an agenda.

You think? I can't remember the name of the episode, but they did a really good special on how that Iraq was not cooperating with UN arms inspectors back in the 90's that I really didn't percieve as pro Saddam. Then they did the Rumsfeld's war one where they showed how the civilian leadership at the Pentagon ignored or replaced the military leaders that said we needed more troops than they wanted to use. I kind of felt like they were showing both sides.

He's one of the best, alright. So is the guy who does the speaking for City Confidential.

The show that crushed my belief in Frontline was aired many years ago. IT was about the LA gun manufactureres- Jennings, Raven, Automag, etc etc. They called this the Triangle of Fire or some such crap.

I was younger then, and had more faith in the media than I do today. Watching that Frontline broke my heart. I remember I complained to my old man about the show- he just sneered; how could I know more about firearms than Frontline??

But like I say- I'll try and tune in.

I saw Rumsfeld's War. Now I'm reading Tommy Franks' book. They seem to be talking about two different wars. :confused:u

I look forward to watching the Tuesday program.

You may have seen some news recently on this, as there is some profanity in the show, and each PBS station was having to decide whether to show it censored or not. I believe my local PBS station is risking the wrath of the almighty FCC, and I look forward to watching it.

Also on PBS Wednesday (Feb 23) is Dirty War, a show originally from HBO on the use of a dirty bomb somewhere in the US. Supposed to be pretty good. They also showed that bioterror docu-drama a while back. That one had a bad ending, but the rendition of the headless-chicken-running government response was pretty striking.
