Chris is a fine fellow I was able to meet during my heat treating service. Chris is by profession a gun maker in New England. His quality of craftsmanship has impressed me from the beginning and because I had heat treated blades for him have been able to hold his work up close. Below is knife numbers 2 and 6. The guard engraving of the top knife was done by Robert Kain, a gun engraver. The top knife is of D2 and the bottom of ATS-34. All furnishings are of 416. The top knife is of black ash burl and is an emulation of a Terry Primos knife. The bottom is of spalted maple. The fit and finish is practically seamless and blind to the touch. I currently have both knives in my possession and can attest to them well deserving of publication. I am also responsible for the poor photography.

Those are very nice, Roger. I have to wonder, maybe you convinced him to make knives, kind of like your transition from gun work to knives. I think it is a natural transition, given your fine talents for working with metal and wood.

NICE!!! Roger the next time you talk to him could you please ask him if he knows about NECKA. Thanks

Chris is a frequent visitor but is somewhat computer shy. I am talking him into signing up. I know if he will he will have much to offer and also ask good questions.

No John, Chris found me after he had ground his first blade.

Chris, those are spectacular! I had a feeling after talking to you the other night that I was going to like them, if for no other reason than because you're so modest about your work. But I also know how well gunsmithing translates to knifemaking. You may feel you've emulated other makers but it's already clear that you have your own voice. Outstanding work Chris, thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see what's next!

And Roger, thanks for posting the pics.

Hey everybody, I just talked to Chris and he asked me to tell you all Thank You for the nice compliments. He says we're his "favorite knifemakers" and we've all been so helpful in his knifemaking he can't thank us enough.

Pretty nice words from such a talented maker, eh? :D Chris's knives look like he's been making for 20 years; I just can't wait to see what his work looks like 20 years from now...!

Chris, I really enjoy your call today. You are welcome at my shop to pick my brains (what I have left) on knife making and I'll pick your's on gunsmithing.
