A couple GEC 25's

I've always liked the GEC 25's, but haven't been crazy about the "tanto-like"(?) upsweep towards the tip of the clip blade. So about a year ago I took a little belly off the clip blade on the black one. Today I got a little restless and decided to make the pen blade into a small sheepsfoot/coping blade. I like these 25's with the nail nicks both on the mark side, too. I don't think I'm ready to "experiment" on the Stag one, but it was kinda fun on the other one. ;)

So whaddya think ..... :cool: or :eek: or :yawn: ?

Edit: Had a little upsweep towards the tip of the "sheepsfoot/coping blade; fixed that & added the 4th pic.

Your Clip blade is definitely an improvement in my eyes.

Keith, you are regular pro at those blade mods! They both look fantastic! I have no idea how you did that with the clip blade. It almost looks like you added steel instead of took some off. It certainly doesn't look any smaller. Very impressive!

I give both blades a big: :cool::cool::cool: And I'll even throw in a few: :eek::eek::eek:

I'd like to see a 25 with a small Sheepfoot anyway.

As I don't care for pen blades much I approve of this thread! (election here today, don't mind me). I think it's great when people modify their knives to suit themselves, rather than placing a tool in the untouchables category. Good job!
 
That clip blade now looks like how it should have came out of the factory imo. You won't need to do that on your #66 though, well, maybe the pen mod...

I think you've been reading my mind, Trand! Yes, I finally broke down and ordered a #66 last night, and in my head I'm thinking ... "I wonder if I could mod the pen blade into some kind of small sheepsfoot/coping blade?" I decided that since my #25 had already been a guinea pig of sorts that I'd try it out on that one first. Still undecided on whether the #66 gets the treatment. ;)

Looks good, man! I've been considering a similar improvement on my 85. I was thinking wharncliffe instead of pen. I don't like those pesky little pen blades too much.
 
I really like it. Don't care for the way the blade sweeps up so steeply.

That is exactly what I think! I keep looking and I keep being amazed.
 
Thanks guys! I think the explanation for "looking like I added steel" is that the stag knife sat a little lower (in the space between the deck boards) on one pic, and rotated a little in another due to the pile side being a little "humpy" - it wouldn't lay flat like the black one. So it's an optical illusion. ;) I started with a bench grinder to get the shape I wanted, fine-tuned it and re-beveled the blade edge with 6" hand files, and finished up on my Norton stones.
 
That's a major improvement in my book I've always felt that Gec did an excellent job with their barlows but now they look even better . I think that Gec should take not of this change in blade profile.
