Over the last couple of days my wife was at a conference in Knoxville. I decided to burn some vacation days and join her just to bum around and get away from work for a little while. One day I drove down to the Smoky Mountains (one of my favorite places in the world) and stopped by SMKW on the way. Picked up a Spyderco Persistence and a Mora. I've had several Spyderco Crickets in the past but have lost them both sadly. Haven't used it much but I have to say it is pretty awesome. It is especially awesome at $35. Definitely my new EDC for now.
I picked up the Mora for my wife. She's not a knife person. However, she is a chimp field researcher and she needs some decent blades. Plus, her birthday is coming up. Since we will both be heading to Uganda soon I decided she needs a good folder and a good fixed blade. I've already gotten her an Ontario RAT-2 folder so I figured she should have a fixed blade for her day pack. In the past she has gotten by with a crappy little paraframe but I think she will appreciate the upgrade once we hit the field.
Anyways, the day I took off to the Smokies I climbed Mt. Leconte. I used both my recently acquired RAT-3 and Spyderco for food prep but that's about it. However, I did take some cool pics during the hike.
RAT-3 posing
My carry that day along with my Vibram Spyridons-GREAT hiking shoes even on the tough rocks
Didn't use her Mora at all but I did want to snap a few pics with it before I give it to her on her bday lol
Hanging out and eating lunch on the summit. Too bad the clouds were pretty thick.
