Here's a couple knives with 1095 blades. Steel I actually bought several years ago that had gone threw the fire. The bowie has an 11 1/2" blade, wrought iorn fittings with a stabalized silvervine handle which by the way didn't melt. The hunter has a 5 1/2" blade, wrought iron fittings with an osage orange handle and blackwood spacer.

Exceptional! I was wondering, do you welcome visitors to your shop. I'd love to see your new shop in person. I live just across the river from you in Vancouver.

I've been thinking about renting my shop out for freezer space. Give me a call sometime durring the week. You can contact me threw my web page. Thats about all its good for anymore.

Thanks. We've actually met, up at Bronks forge, in Bothell. 2005 Fall Hammer In. I'll call you next week. I want to make sure I visit when it's not inconvenient for you.

I love the bowie, and the hunter looks great. That bowie is awsome! Silver vine wood? I'll have to see about getting some, it looks great. Only thing I think the hunter would have looked better without the cap and ring, or if you'd moved it down so it flowed with the handle, beutiful job on it, just my personal preferance, your milage may very.

I really like them both, especially the hunter! That's some of the prettiest osage orange I've seen and the whole knife just fits and flows really well.

Well, freezing yer arse didn't hamper yer knifemaking skills, Ray! Nice.

That's a nicely sawn cut of hedgeapple.

Excellent work as usual Ray! I especially like to see the use of stuff from your old shop that's as tough as you are. :) That's some beautiful osage on the hunter, and I like the butt cap on it as well.

Tell us more about the "silver vine" I've never heard of it...it sure does look nice though.

Here's a link to the outfit that has the silvervine: http://www.galleryhardwoods.com/knifehandle.htm There's a sample of it on this page and its real simular to whats on the bowie.

Speaking of cold. I think the pictures would have turned out better if it wasn't 34 degrees. The blades had goose bumps. I didn't mention that I had put a coat of dye on the hedgapple mainly to bring out the grain better.

Did you brush on the dye and then wipe off?
I looks great.

The dye is put on as heavy as it will go on. Let it dry and then sand with 600 grit or finer. The idea is to remove most of it and just allowing it to enhance the grain. You could wipe it off wet but you'll still need to sand since most the dyes will lift the grain.

Hey Buxton, I thought maybe you were stuck up in a tree somewhere.

I don't usually make statements on the forum but Dave pulled me over to look at the osage orange. Immediately I noticed the wrought iron bolster and finish piece on the end of the hunter. You have an excellent eye for balance and finish. Keep up the good work. Just one question-does the wrought iron rust easily? And if so what do you do to protect it? Thanks! Wendy.
