I'm doing my best to become a bonafide collector and recently started looking to some vintage 110. I have number of discontinued knives like a 506,
446, 442, 111 but other that my 1st version 112 inverted, nothing real vintage.
I recently had a little luck:

2 dot

Looking at the pictures on the bay, I figgered the wood and bolsters were good and would clean up like new but the blade may be a disappointment.
The wood is nearly perfect as are the bolsters expect once the patina was cleaned up it revealed 2 scars from dropping it that arent terrible but probably too big to file and buff without leaving a depression. The blade however is in much better shape than I hoped and just needs buffed but the blade edge is sound.

after:

anyone figger what variant this is?

Next is 5th version 3rd variant I believe:

continued

The blade, wood and bolsters are absolutely perfect execpt for 9 small nicks in the left rear bolster(which the ebay seller disclosed) If not for this it would be mint. My POS camera wouldnt take a good pic of the dings cause I would like your opinon whether to have them buffed out but am afraid it would make a depression and lessen the appearance.

Thanks for looking

Hi imafritz -

Cool! I did bid on the one with the green corrosion, but I just bid what I would pay and come back later to see if I won.

Congrats - looks like you got a nice 110 there.

Did you see the 110 on the Buck web specials site with the laser cut-out of a stag head? It is a very nice deal for $35 - I got one put away......

Thanks for the pictures.

best regards -

Looks like you're on your way with some good knives for a good start.

Your last pictures were a little better, but......we need to get you some photography help fast.

What kind of camera do you have?

Decide whether you got big rivets or smaller rivets. My old list says smaller 3rd ver. and bigger 4th ver.

BG, I know Fritz read my photo thread...but let me remind everyone.....tripod,tripod,tripod,tripod,tripod,
That was the short version.

Bg,
I took the second set under the Christmas tree cause there was a lot of light
but not a lot of glare. My camera is a sony I think but only good for family photos, not up close or hi def.

300,
great pics I'll have to check the rivots when I get home. Those are 112's
do the 110 2 dots follow the same pattern?

Great advice, 300 Bucks......tripod and soft natural light and attention to focus issues (find settings for macro, etc.) will take you a long way.

I was wondering if he was trying to use a cell phone camera or something.

Anyhow if he's read your photo thread he should be on the way to great photos, too.

Thanks.

Actually I think my cell phone is almost as good

Gotta watch out for any lights that might get you a strange color.

Your camera might be a lot better than you think.....just look at the book to find out how close it will focus on normal and then how to set for macro when you need to get closer.

If you don't have a tripod yet you can sometimes rest the camera on something and then use the shutter delay function to avoid the shake from pressing the shutter button. Just rest it against something solid and make sure it's steady when it goes off.

If you can find a spot by a window that gets real good natural light, that's the place to set up for photos.

As you get more great knives, you'll want to become a great photographer to show them off (and we'll all appreciate it).

:D

Well, there are a few really good photographers here if you ever need help and that thread that 300 mentioned of his does provide a wealth of info.

imafritz to answer your question, the two dot 110 did come out with the three smaller pins first, then the three larger pins. It should be around 1978/1980 as far as I can find out. I have one with the three smaller pins that was thined down at some point in its life, it is about half the thickness in the handle that it should be. The rest of my two dots are of the three pin's. Two of them are in my EDC rotation because the blades are messed up. The rest are safe queens. HL

Just checked the 2 dot and it definitely is the large pins. Thanks for that info. Now I got one to work with and will look to pick one up in better condition. This one also as a little blade play-not enough to be of any concern but the 5th version is tight as a drum as are the rest of my newer versions.

I don't understand why that's not a sticky.

That should definitely be a sticky.

That was ref the photography link.

[hijack-thread]

Hi imafritz -

Some cell phones do well - my LG Dare does great with macro shots with good depth of field, all hand-held, but you have to have good light - anything less than great light and my phone does not get the shot.
