Jason, is the CF on your bike polished? If it's shiny, that shiny stuff scratches real easy. Usually, when CF is shiny, it has an outer coating that seems to be easy to scratch. I've never done real testing but from my experience CF is harder than micarta or G10. When I scribe my patterns in these handle materials, CF is the most resistant to scratching. As far as toughness, I really don't know.
When drilling holes or cutting on a bandsaw, CF is the hardest, then G10, and micarta is softest.
When grinding, G10 is easiest, Then CF, and micarta is the most difficult
When filling, G10 is easiest, then micarta, and CF is most difficult. CF wants to chip and break apart unless you're using a fine file.
When finish hand sanding, micarta is by far the most troublesome. G10 is pretty easy and CF is so easy it almost feels like cheating.
Ray on one knife it has the flats black is this a coating or a chemical finish?
