Has anyone used the 140 Grit Diamond Flattening Plate by CKTG? What do you think about it?

And how about the Ultra Sharp Diamond Hones that Best Sharpening Stones carries? How do they compare with DMT?

The CKTG plate is a cheap but effective plate, it's longevity and flatness can be questionable at times. It works if you just need a cheap plate, but through experience I've learned you pay more for a reason.

The ultra sharp diamond is pretty good, very fast and a great one stone solution. In my hands I have noticed the diamond shaped patches on this plate to not be tightly bonded and allow water to seep under. Eventually rusting and causing the patch of diamonds to peel from the plate.

The DMT plates have none of the above issues and IMO are only rivaled by the Atoma Plates.

the ultrasharp is good I have one of the combo 400/600 and no issues with it as to compare it to dmt I cant tell much in the way of difference. I bought the combo about 1 to 2 yrs ago and it is still ok. I have had dmts for several yrs and have had one 600 the red one that was replaced because of the diamonds becoming loose but I used it for three or 4 yrs. I make 30 to 40 knives a year and sharpen hundreds in the same timeframe and mine see a lot of use.

I ordered the Ultra Diamond stones.

They seem to be high quality, but the 1200 grit hone, which is what DMT calls extra fine, is not nearly as fine as the DMT 1200 grit.

Even allowing for some break in to lower the initial aggression.

I have the CKTG plate. It's a little warped and has some really rough spots that leave deep scratches in steel and in stones when I use it for flattening. So it's pretty much a paper weight. I use it to take chips out of my machete. Cuts super fast. My DMT coarse dis sharp stone is awesome
