Man, those are nice! I'm seriously itching for one of your knives. That stag #132 is really calling my name...

1. Where did you get the idea for a spear point blade and a clip point blade, and what specific purposes would these blades serve, combined in the same knife?

2. Why are you using brass and nickel silver in custom slipjoints?(The response of "why not?" will be deemed unacceptable, and harsh retort would follow)

When one gets duller the other is still sharp before it comes time to sharpen both?

I've owned a lot of slipjoints since the very first one my grandfather gave me. And while I understand blade designs have a useful purpose, I personally find the handle design to be much more critical. Unless, of course, i'm opting for a SAK with tools designed for a specific task(s). And while I do favor the wharncliffe blade it's not because I whittle wood (I don't - which would be one of the design purposes), it's because it's easier to sharpen for me on my stones. I dunno... that's just me... I'm sure Todd will chime in with his reasoning (which I'm curious to read as well).

I owned one of Todd's knives and have another on order that will go in my EDC rotation. I know what i'm getting and am happy with the prices.

Personification gives human qualities to objects-animals-or ideas. The leaves danced in merry circles. The sea roared back its answer. The breeze sang a sweet tune. The idea sang in his mind.

Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification.

Always good to know you will be satisfied with a product before getting it, isn't it?

Todd, those are gorgeous!!!

Do you / could you / would you consider doing the same 2 blade combination, but in a muskrat/moose pattern?

STeven,
I'm curious why you (apparently) object to the use of nickel silver in a custom slipjoint?

I don't like nickel silver in just about any custom knife, but certainly not CUSTOM slipjoints.

Queen makes a really super slipjoint, but they use brass and nickel silver in the construction. Practically ALL factory made slipjoints use these materials. Stainless steel is the material that differentiates custom from factory qualities, and none of the makers that I have been looking at lately(Ruple, Bose, Shadley, Chamblin, Taylor, Hanson........) use any brass or nickel silver in handle construction.

Brass and nickel silver patina in uninteresting, and flat out unattractive ways, IMO, and are unacceptably soft. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, these is mine.

STeven,
Thanks. Personally, I do own one custom slipjoint with nickle silver liners and bolsters. I've had it for well over a year and patina has not been an issue. Maybe that's because I actually carry it in my pocket, where the unacceptably soft nickel silver gets polished by the fabric. ;)

All of my other custom slipjoints have stainless steel liners and bolsters and I do agree with you that it has a better look and feel.

Brass I only like if it's paired with sheephorn. :p

Outstanding. I'm still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor after seeing the stag/damascus!

Not that I disagree with your assessment STeven, but subtleties fly out of you like thunderbolts:D

Thanks! for the complements good and bad.

Everyone is entitled to there own opinions, and I have No problem with that.

I like traditional style folders, and that's what I like to make. :D

Thanks
