Plumb Victory (WWII era?) and a smaller hatchet (no markings).
Google has not been my friend on info. The Roofer's Hatchet is
in very good condition. The smaller hatchet is nice. Any clue?

Bit looks good, a little mushrooming that was fixed. A pic from the top showing eye and cheek profile might help.
Glad you found something- my flea market had ONE hatchet- went three days in a row...same hatchet with broken eye. All I bought were some Black Diamond files.

Great looking roofing hatchet! I love those for splitting small size logs into kindling. The other no name hatchet looks like it was re-handled with too short of a handle? The head looks too big for the length of the handle.

I always like vintage Plumbs. They just seem to always be good.

I have had real good luck with no names. I have found some as good as anything else I own and better than some of my stamped heads. How big is it? It looks like its bigger than a scout axe but smaller than a house axe.
The great thing about them no names is that they are so affordable. A guy can really get his money's worth.

Thanks for the responses and I should know better.
Sorry for not posting enough data or better pics.
I'll get all that info tomorrow and post more detailed pics. :)

That roofing hatchet is nice, much better condition than most. I tried them for camping, and while versatile, they are not my favorite for splitting even small logs. My preference is a heavier hatchet...which brings us to the next find! My favorite splitting hatchet is in fact a house axe, which is what it looks like you found. Generally speaking, it is a boy's axe head on a heavier 18-20 inch handle. That's why the proportions look funny if you try to see is a a regular 1.25lb 12-14 inch hatchet. I can't help on the ID, but is you split chunks of firewood into kindling, you may find that you like that tool quite a bit.

Cool finds. I like the hatchet - the Plumb items I find are almost always well-made. I recently put together a house axe. The eye is sized for a boy's axe but I ended up sizing down a house axe handle to fit it. Jblyttle's experience is similar to mine - for smaller work like kindling they are really useful. Any marks under the poll like maybe a weight?
