A couple of my first blades...

Impressive...even your first couple of knives out of the shop appear to very high quality. On a side note, I love those wood Hogue grips on that Ruger. I carry mine with the same blk rubber version from Hogue. They make a great gun even better.

They look pretty good to me Trace. How long ago was that?

This is a pic of my very first knife, about 1980. What looks like a skinning blade, started out to be the tang. I butchered the original blade section so badly, I ground it into a stick tang, then ground the tang section into the blade you see. I skinned a bunch of deer with this blade and learned a good lesson in improvization very early. That was also my last pakkawood handle.

Those look great Trace, especialy the second one with the index notch and the bolster...sweet !.....RDT

Trace, those are great. Tantos just have a natural appeal, almost everyone likes them and there's no end to the variations you can dream up. I like the beefy blades on yours, they look a lot tougher than any I've ever made.

Jerry, was it the light or was the handle on your skinner sculpted? Pakkawood and field expedient blade or no, that's a good looking knife.

Wish I still had my first knife, it was big and earnest (workmanship not up to these standards but my heart was in it), but got stolen off my desk at home. I still watch for that thing every time I'm near a pawn shop or gun show...

Jerry those were made about 1998.. I got interested in making knives in 95, but didnt really do anything about it till 97-98..
Funny I can kinda see the Hossom style even in that knife you posted.. My VERY first knife looked like a POS..:-)I learned ALOT from that first knife. That is probably the ONLY time I have ever used file work on the spine.. Looks like hell in the picture but it was actually pretty decent.
Jason thats my wifes Jack Wiegand SP101, she has since traded it for a Glock 27.. The Ruger was a bit heavy.. I have some rubber Hogues on it now, the wood is for looks only..
Thanks for the compliments, its fun doing show and tell....:-)

Take Care
