I went on a traditional buying spree in the last few weeks. I was looking for a small pen knife to carry.

I picked up this used J.A. Henckels stag two bladed pen knife for about $30. The stag has been repaired with some type of putty or epoxy (visible on the left side of the photo around the pivot pin of the secondary blade. The blades are carbon steel but have been cleaned up by the seller.
Both blades are full and don’t appear to have been sharpened and they open smoothly with nice snap.

Aside from the repair job and blade cleaning the fit and finish on this knife is superb.
It is exactly the size knife I was looking for.

I picked up a few others as well:

Top to bottom- Bonsa equal end, stag covers and stainless blades- about the size of a swiss army knife.

Al Mar Osprey- an original Al Mar, the perfect little gentleman’s folder. The jigged bone is crisp and smooth.

Genella 1977 lockback- it is twice as thick as the Al Mar, with excellent jigged bone covers. This knife for lack of a better description is a lockback Barlow with a spear point blade.

The Genella and Osprey side by side- both blades are a smidge under two inches. My photos do not do the bone on these knives any justice.

And a couple Cases:

Top to bottom- vintage red bone Eisenhower pen, stag or stag bone Eisenhower pen and a modern red bone Eisenhower above a red jigged bone half whittler.

I have a couple more incoming- a melon knife (one of my all time favorite patterns) and another stag penknife. I don’t think I spent over $50 for any of these knives except the Al Mar.

I will touch up the Henckels on my sharpmaker and that one will go in my pocket for the little cutting chores that don’t call for the use of my tactical folders.

Thanks for looking

Pete

The Genella and Al Mar are my favorites of this batch hands down. Fit and finish is impeccable, expected with the Al Mar but surprising for a $30 knife I had never heard of in my 30 plus years of knife collecting.
