Hello,
I've been wanting to purchase a hawkbill for a little while now. However, I have never handles one or carried one. The family and I were taking a trip into Pennsylvania and I knew of a place in Lewisberg that had some knives. That is where I found this for $12.50. Not a Case, but not that bad. The box says "Hawkbill for Stanley Picked Bone". Its a wood handle. Blade is centered nice with a half stop. I can not seem to find much information on this model. Not sure who made it for Stanley either. (Other than its Chinese). I may end up buying a Case if I enjoy carrying it.

Traveled down the road a little farther and found this. I am hesitant to open it. I know it a working knife, but it was made by Imperial Schrade in Ireland. I like the fact its a liner lock. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Keith

I've never had one of them either, other than having used a linoleum knife a couple times which is basically a hawkbill knife, but not a folder.

I saw a fellow on RFC post two Bose/Case collaboration garden knives that are hawkbills of a sort. Very nice knives they were, but I've never run across an opportunity to buy one.

Those are both very nice, Keith! Nice score on both of them!

I'm not sure if I would open the Imperial Schrade either. Maybe others can give you better advice on that.

Either way, I like em!

I know how you feel about wanting to purchase a Hawkbill for a while. I came across this 1975 Case at a brick & mortar flea market one day but I didn't buy it. I thought about the knife for several months after that so one day I went back and it was still there. I don't use mine but I just had to have it.

i saw the tradesman hawkbill at a local retailer in dfw and almost picked one up as well. i dug around looking for a store that might carry the stanley you found and happened across this info about it...

STANLEY Hawkbill Cocobola Knife, SL0067WGNB. Features Cocobola wood handles, polished nickel silver bolsters, solid brass liners and pins, nickel plated brass logo shields with a 440 stainless steel blade.

...looks like a nice hawk bill to give a run at to see how it works for you edc. i've heard great things about hawkbills vs boxes and plastic blister packaging which is most of what i use my edc knife on anyways.

not sure how to sharpen a hawkbill. my current rotation gets leather stropped nightly and stone sharpened every few weeks. can you drag that guy backwards against a strop and get a good pass?

Railsplitter - Nice Hawkbill!

Winky - I guess you sharpen them on a round stone. I have not tried it yet.

I guess I will ask over in the Schrade forum if I should open it,
Keith

Spyderco makes a brown medium and white fine stone kit that are profile rods about 40 bucks that will put a nice edge on those. I am going to try a slack belt and see how I do. I like hawkbills, but they are not pocket friendly. I plan on getting a belt pouch for one. Once my yard is done I am gonna prune with my Tina hawkbill knife. I love the pattern. If it were me, I would open that package. It may lose a tad bid of value, but it was made to be used and not hung up on a wall. IMO it will have more value cutting stuff than being sealed up in cuttable material. You can use that clam shell package for sharpness testing, so it has value too. Nice pics thanks. I love hawkbills.
