My B-day is coming up so I was gonna hit the wife up for a new knife...I'm considering the fallkniven f-1 I was curious ehat I can expect from this knife as a general user??? for camping/survival/mild amateur bushcraft. I'm concerned with edge retention, and ease of sharpening, also corrosion resistance. I read the re ent thread that compares it agains a swamprat...I believe the grind was changed however..I believe that the fallkniven comes with a convex grind...I believe that this is easily sharpened and maintained through stropping (please correct me if I'm wrong)

My next question is I've been using the sog seal pup on and off for a while it will probably be relegated to duty as a saltwater activity/dive knife...I believe the nonserrated portion of the blade is hollow ground, and was considering changing it to convex for ease of edge maintenace in the field...Any thoughts???

I'm of the understanding (again could be mistaken ) that a convex edge provides more strength to the edge to prevent it form chipping from hard use. It is also easy to maintain, but does not nec. get as sharp as other grinds..Is this correct? Thanks.

1) I never handled the F1 but I have had many VG-10 knives and corrosion resistance is pretty good, but I have had one develop spots. VG-10 is pretty easy to sharpen compare to S30v. It also takes a very keen edge. Can't comment on edge retention as i usually touch my knifes up after using them.

2) I have changed the bevel on my seal2000 to convex. It is way, way tougher than putting a keen v-grind edge on it. When I had a v-grind on the knife, it developed two chips on the PE part. Ever since I had the convex edge on it, I have had to fully sharpen the knife again. A few quick strop and it's back in action.

3) The seal easily shaves with the convex bevel, so it's plenty sharp from a practical POV.

Hope this helps.
