i am in a picture taking mood tonight, and was playing with lighting. snapped some pics of the boker trapper i recieved in a trade with MNBLADE (great guy to deal with by the way) and my trusty mora. i also took what i think is a good shot of my old block plane, so i am tossing that up here too.

Like and composition the concept, check your white balance,it seems like the lite color background is a little blown out, maybe you can increase the f-stop or increase the shutter speed, decreasin' the iso setting lower would also help.

Keep shootin'.

thanks for the tips, i shot these with my cheapie digital as my slr has black and white film in it at the moment, so i have limited control over the settings. everything is pretty much auto set for these.

i think i will run them through photoshop and try to balance them out a little bit

The trick to taking shots of shiney things is getting enough light without the glare. When I'm trying to shoot a knife, I will move the camera and knife until I can get the best image with the least amount of glare. Glare back into the lense will hose you up.

If you are really interested in shooting great shots of shiney things or any small still life for that matter, check this thread out for some ideas from pro Jim Cooper(SharpByCoop) http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328550&

I really like your images and with a little tweeking, you can make them even better.

my next move is going to be picking up some of those tin reflector lights and setting up a box like coop's there...i am just getting into photography and haven't really got anything set up yet.

thanks for the tips though guys it is helpful
