hi I am not a law enforcement or a firefighter, I just ordered a xm 18 4th generation the 3 inch slicer. these are me questions
1. can I order scales for the handle direct from hinderer
2. If I need to replace the blade does he do that
3. If I completely taapartart the knife, does this void the warranty
4. will he refurbish even though I am not a law or fire
5. changing the hinderer scale does this void the warranty
normallyormaly carry sebenzas, how does the xm compare to the sebenza

3" are Gen 2, only 3.5s are Gen 4.

Order scales direct from their site, install and swap as you like.

As for warranty: defects and errors on thier part are covered, you destroy it, that's on you.

As for the Sebenza question, I own one, carry none...just sayin'. They are excellent gentleman's knives, where the XM is a fitting companion for those able to buy direct.

I do know if you read the stickies, you may see the info you seek on spa treatment, warranty, blade swaps, etc.

Consulting one of the two sticky threads on this forum would be advisable but I'll answer your few questions.

Welcome and your 3 inch slicer is Gen 2 as already covered.

1. can I order scales for the handle direct from hinderer

A quick visit to http://www.rickhindererknives.com/ reflects a whole slew of scales available (with blue/black being the only option out of stock), purchase away.

2. If I need to replace the blade does he do that

I have no idea why you would need to replace the blade unless the blade has a clear manufacturing defect which I have never seen or heard of in a completed and sold knife. If you abuse your knife then you won't be covered. They don't sell replacement blades.

I have seen a couple of "flawed" XM blades (cosmetic), but they never left the shop, despite me begging Rick for his "flawed" wharnie which he or Lori typically carries...

3. If I completely taapartart the knife, does this void the warranty

Disasembling and reassembling your XM is encouraged and able to be done quite easily but if you struggle to tie your shoes, it is best you don't do it. Also, it is advisable to get to know your knife and learn some basics (i.e., use thread locker (med strength or low strength or something like vibra-tite TC-3 like I use) only on the pivot (don't use it on the other hardware)). There are more, read some threads throughout this forum for other tips and tricks.

4. will he refurbish even though I am not a law or fire

Yes, when they offer refurbishing services (currently refurbishing is on hold due to their current work load).

5. changing the hinderer scale does this void the warranty

Not if they are Hinderer scales (which includes the Monkey Edge frag versions), non-Hinderer scales do void the warranty.

There is no comparison in my opinion, the XM is the best, see for yourself when you start carrying the XM daily rather than other choices.

Dude, you just gave a fish dinner rather than teaching the art of fishing. :D

You did part of the homework for the masses.

I did have fish for dinner tonight...

I could have written "RTFM" but that is lost on most.

Your info. was not an over-share, more of a consolidation. That's why I made the homework comment.
