A couple of questions about my Mayo 172.

I just got a 172...WOW this is smoother than I could ever imagine a knife being, and SHARP! yikes! I simply cannot find anything I don't like about this knife. Some have said the clip is too tight, and it is indeed tight! But for something this awesome I don't mind a little extra security. And, it is inconspicuous when clipped to the pocket of my jeans.

I do have 2 questions though, hopefully Mr. Mayo can reply to the second one.

1. Are the backspacers Titanium? Not to say that this knife isn't Absoulutely Gorgeous, but I think some blue-purple anodizing on the backspacers would totally set it off.

2. Any TNT owners, or hopefully Mr. Mayo, I really find it hard to imagine a better knife. On a scale of 1-10, putting a TNT at 10, what would you rate the buck/Mayo?

Thanks and Regards,
Steve:)

After buying and handling two "perfect" specimens of the 172 TNT I would rate IT a near-perfect 9.9

I personally prefer a "tip up" carry and, at first wondered why Tom / Buck didn't pre-drill it so the clip could be moved to the other end. After becoming more familier with the design I now realize that the shape of the handle does not lend itself well to be carried "small-end" up.

Overall, the Buck/Mayo is a real work of art and worth every cent. I am proud to own it.

:)

I have the real TNT and it is an awesome knife. My buck 172 is at the post office now and I will get it tomorrow. I first saw a Buck a few weeks ago and just had to have one of them. The original has a thicker blade and handles, so the Buck is easier to carry than the Mayo I have. I do carry it everyday and am not afraid to use it on anything. The blade is so thick (3/16") it is hard to make fine cuts with it. From what I saw of the Buck, it is very close to that "10".

If you send me your clip I will fix it...............just wrap it in some paper and put it in an envelop...........tom

the standoffs are 300 series stainless, non magnetic and non rusting.

not titanium, but they can easily be replaced with ti one if you so desire.

I got mine a few days ago. Very nice,,,very sharp,,,smooth and tight.
Kinda like a flat -grind blade instead of hollow grind?
Also would rather tip up clip.
BLUE spacers would be cool!!!
GREAT looking knife! My most expensive knife purchase ever!
Even at wholesale.
