A couple of questions for Sal

Since you obviously are the man who knows more about Spydies than anyone else and has handled and tested every model your company has ever produced, I'd like to ask you a couple of questions, just out of curiosity really.

1. Which of the models you had to discontinue for business reasons did you personally like best?

2. Has there ever been a design you wish you hadn't offered in retrospect? (if you don't want to answer that one, just skip it)

3. If you could own only five Spydercos, which ones would you choose?

Thanks in advance for your time, Sal! :)

I particularly like the Caly's, but they are more of an "afi" model and couldn't carry the demand.

The SpydeRench is one I still always have one of with me. We're still working on a return of that one.

I miss the Dyads, but we have more of those in the works.

I have my own pieces of many of the models so I'm not losing out on the useage.

Hindsight is often 20/20 so one might suggest a model that lost money might be looked at differently, but then the learning would not have occured. So all in all, every design had its merits. The market may have been smaller than guessed. Some were certainly more of a pain in the X#@& than others.

3. If you could own only five Spydercos, which ones would you choose?

From a "practical" point of view: a Mili, a Caly, a Rench, a salt and a Fixed blade (probaly a Temperance or the new Schempp).

tough questions.

Thanks for the reply, Sal! Very interesting.
If the SpydeRench returns, I'll probably get one.

Thanks Sal:cool: , I always wondered what your favourites were.

If I've seen it right, you're even carrying your Mili on the Sharpmaker video/DVD.

Hi SpyDutch,

He didn't say favorite, I picked the 5 most effective combination for the most conditions.

Actually, thinking more about it, I think I'd have to trade the Caly for the Delica 4.

Sal,
I just want to say that I think it is simply awesome that you take the time to respond here on the forums.
The way you conduct yourself and the way you run your company makes me proud to support Spyderco.

And I can't wait to get my hands on the new Endura and Delica!

Thanks again,
Allen.

[Emphasis mine]

Yabba Dabba Doo...........I'll grab one of the new ones as soon as it hits the streets.

Any pictures around of the new Schempp Camp Knife?

I would like to see the SpydeRench return.

Thank you Allen.

Hey Halfneck,

Ed's still "fussin" with the design so pics would only be of something that will more than likely change. I've been pushin' him that we have to "get it right" so he's still refining. The blade design will probably remain close, Ed's working on final handle shape. Steel is still a question, Ed is still considering what will be the absolute best selection for the intended purpose.
